I fully expect to wake up to Good Morning America in a few hours to news of several major cities on fire, tens of thousands of Elderly and Children dying in the streets, Al-Quaeda taking over the Capitol (along with their Republican allies), and visitors to Yellowstone inconvenienced.
I have a visit to the Grand Canyon planned for next week. Fees paid and reservations made. What will happen?
I really want to make some kind of pithy comment, summing everything up with an edgy one-liner.
But all I got is: This is so freaking stupid. I mean, really, Congress? Really?
When you see cats and dogs living together, it will be time to worry.

Most likely, unless something is hashed out this week, you won’t get to go in. I mean, the canyon will still be there, as it was for millions of years before Washington D.C. was established, and was visited and explored by Native Americans and Spaniards and even early American settlers, mostly safely, but the highly trained Federal professionals who take your money at the gate and make sure you don’t start forest fires won’t be there to let you in.
Sorry.
I’d say don’t unpack just yet, your odds are still pretty good. How late next week?
The upside is that Boehner can do it any time. Call the vote, clean bill, and there are enough Republicans who are sick to death of the Insane Clown Posse that it will pass, with almost all the Dems supporting.
The downside is that Boehner would be commiting political hara-kiri.
And if he does, I say bless his heart, for once he done GOOD!
[Resident Juggalo]On behalf of the Insane Clown Posse I take offense to this statement. Although the Tea Party may be doing a rather enthusiastic take on “Fuck the World” they have nothing else in common with the Wicked Clowns.[/Resident Juggalo]
The one thing to remember is that, although you live in a “free” country, there are places you won’t be allowed to go without Government sanction. So although you had planned a vacation at one of the greatest natural wonders of the world, Federal bureaucrats will deny you access because it’s not yours, or mine, it’s THEIRS.
Agreed. And if I were a House Minority Leader, I’d get the Dems to join any sane Republicans in ensuring he retains his gavel at least until the Democratic Party retakes the House. And If I were head of the DNC, I’d provide him support against being primary’d next summer (although not against his Democratic opponent in the fall).
We REALLY need a coalition in the House to isolate, contain, and marginalize the fucking Tea Party.
To be fair, if we didn’t have federal bureaucrats curating the place, it would have been paved over and turned into a Walmart by now.
But hey, just remember, the ACA kicks in tomorrow (the first bits anyway) so instead of worrying about the “shutdown” you can focus on being on hold with coordinators for 2+ hours to try to log into computer systems that can’t handle the sudden stress of millions of graspy-grabby-needys that are trying to access it. The time will fly by!
Ha… no. And even so, if it were open and available to millions of people regardless of the whims of Washington, would that be such a bad thing?
Oh, gross. I thought this was supposed to be a cute little comedy thread, not some sort of horrible spew of Republican buzzwords. Shoo, shoo. The grownups need to put the country back together.
What, Walmart? Walmart is open and available to millions of people every day.
Ok, sorry - but still, are you on hold yet?
Last time, Arizona picked up the tab to keep the park open. While I wouldn’t want to put a bet on it, I don’t think the shutdown will last past Friday.
There is a lot of ignorance in that post.
Wait, wait, wait. I thought the ACA was going to be a failure because no one in America wants it?
I think it’s that “no real American” wants it. Since all the real Americans are flying to success-world via flapping their bootstraps.
Still, gotta admit, “graspy-grabby-needys” has a kind of poetry to it. Maybe Snoop Dog as a heavily sedated Republican.
