Run For the Hills! (Government Shutdown in Effect)

You know, it’s seriously annoying when someone posts a dump of links and clearly either hasn’t bothered to read them, treats unattibuted blog posts with the same weight as verifiable news articles, or, perhaps, the poster simply assumes that no one is actually going to check them out.

As GIGObuster pointed out, the article clearly states that a spokeman for at least one of the colleges denies that this has anything to do with the ACA. Granted, this apparently was added after initial publication.

Blog post, linking back to another unattributed blog post.

Unattributed blog post.

Apparently an actual, verifiable story supporting your position, by a legitimate news organization. Congratulations.

Incorrect regarding Papa John’s, as previously posted by Skip.

Duplicate link to the one above.

Same East Penn School District story as reported by the Morning Call above.

If they are all as crappy as the ones posted above, please don’t bother.

The measure has passed the House. Hasn’t gone through the Senate yet, although I imagine it will. I heard there was a possibility the Senate might attach some amendments to it and send it back to force the House’s hand on some things, although that’s been conjecture so far.

But not a done deal yet.

I am also a federal employee, in what’s considered an essential job. Working, but not getting paid. Our agency told us they would provide a letter for us to show our creditors explaining the situation. I haven’t had to use it, as I can patchwork my budget together for another month or so, but I have no way of knowing if any creditors would be flexible just because I had an official government letter telling them to hold on, I’m going to get paid eventually.

I was also working during the last shutdown in 1995. In that case, money was appropriated to pay the essential workers who were still on the job after only a few days of shutting down, so for me, at least, things didn’t get close to the way they’re going this time.

Good luck, guys!

Thanks for doing the work on this!

I find the whole fainting-couch reaction to even the concept of people’s hours being cut somewhat remarkable. Do these people not realize that under the existing system, many people are scheduled just under full time in order to keep from having to give them benefits, like healthcare? Do they think businesses just came up with this idea post-ACA?

I know committees are not legislative traffic cops but they way they are currently used is part of the problem. And I know that you couldn’t have debate on every motion or Congress would grind to a halt. What I’m trying to say is that the Chair (SotH in the House and Maj. Leader in the Senate) should not be allowed to unilaterally kill motions that they disagree with but deserve the attention of the House .

I’m sorry, that’s not an option. The hills are in a national park.

Everyone knows the hills are closed, BG. Its a metaphor, which is an analogy that is kinda like a simile. Sort of.

So, I guess next you are going to tell me they are not in fact alive with the sound of music.

Marine Corps band is furloughed too.

Wellll . . . yes, they are, kindasorta. But not with any songs they have sung for a thousand years! :dubious:

Look out your window, and what do you spy?
Rain falling out of a sun-shiny sky,
It’s changing to hailstones that weigh half-a-ton,
With seven live frogs hopping out of each one.
It’s not the Last Judgment, stop wailing of sin,
It’s only the Gods at wine-tasting again!

Chorus:

So, drink, drink to Charlie Forts’ memory,
Marvelous doings and marvelous sights.
Drink, drink, we may as well join t hem.
The Gods are not crazy, they’re higher than kites!
