Running a Con?

A bunch of fanfic writers got together at the Buffy Tamp Con in 2003 and said, “Hey, we should make our own Writer’s Con!”

And they did it. It took a year, unbelievable man power, extreme dedication, a lot of hard work, and a great deal of expense. But they pulled it off. They even got some great guest speakers. I know another person who wanted to create a fan con…so she could meet James Marsters. She pulled it off too, but it was one of the worst cons in the history of cons. Despite the horror stories, it took her over a year to pull it all together.

So, in conclusion, it can be done, but it’s probably something that is going to take much more work than you imagine…and maybe more energy and time than you’ve got to spend.

My apologies if I seemed snide about the name of the thread. I’ve seen other threads where people used deliberately deceptive names for them, and I’ve always been bothered by that. I now realize that you weren’t doing that.

It sounds like the best idea for you is to start small by doing gamedays. Use these to recruit a committee. The most important thing is that you put together a committee where the members trust each other. If you start with a committee with people who respect each other, you don’t have to worry so much about committee members suddenly quitting, arguing, or screwing each other over.
