Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

Nice! I’ve had my eye on that game but never wanted to spend the $$$.

I recently came across this really useful site that lists deals on Steam, Origin, Uplay, Amazon, the Humble Bundle and like 20 other digital download sites. You can choose to only look for games that are Steam-activatable, if you’d like. You can use it in three ways:

  1. Browsing directly on http://isthereanydeal.com/
  2. Adding specific games to your wishlist there (or importing your Steam wishlist) and getting emailed whenever they’re on sale
  3. Using the Steam Price History Graph extension for Chrome to automatically let you know about low prices when you browse the Steam website in Chrome

Much easier than searching through all the digital download sites separately.

I use http://www.steamgamesales.com/

It might be better than isthereanydeal for people not in the US as you can change the region.

Origin is having a decent sale. Mass Effect 3 for AUD 6, if you’ve been putting that buy off. Sims 3 was a little tempting, but I’d need to read up on what expansions to get.

GamersGate has the second Civ V DLC, Brave New World for AUD 7.50. Lowest that it’s ever been.

GreenManGaming has a Total War collection for 20 something bucks. Does not have Rome II, of course. Really can’t think who’d buy something like that, but I feel a bit dim for picking up Empire for 9 bucks the other day. I guess the one I bought includes more DLC. They do have Rome II on sale as well, for 30 bucks. It’s been that low several times.

I think isthereanydeal lists a few more stores (Humble Bundle, DLrocket, etc.) You can change its region at the very top left.

The Steam Summer Sale is on early this year. It goes from today (June 19th) to June 30th.

So far we’ve got major discounts on:
Don’t Starve: $3.74
The Witcher 1 & 2: $1.99 and $3.99
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion: $7.99
Far Cry 3: $7.49
XCom Enemy Unknown: $7.49
Dead Island Riptide: $4.99

And a whole bunch more. It’s only the first day, so there’ll be plenty more to come.

PS: I have a free copy of Left 4 Dead 2 (for Steam) if anyone wants it. PM me your Steam username or your email address.

It’s EA Classics Weekend at GoG. 60% off Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2, Sim City 2000 & 4, Theme Hospital, Theme Park, Wing Commander 1 - 5, WC: Privateer 1 & 2, WC: Academy, WC: Armada, Ultima 1 - 9 + Underworld 1 & 2, Populous 1 & 2 + The Beginning, etc.

Huh…
They just had all this stuff on sale on Origin.
(And IIRC, at a higher price.)

Behold. Borderlands 2 Game of the Year on Steam for $9.99. And a discount on all the Head Hunter packs that aren’t included in that package. $0.98 each.

Okay, I’ve always thought the Tropico games looked cool and interesting and possibly even fun, and now Steam has the Tropico 4 Collector’s Bundle on sale for $39.99; it includes 12 DLC packs.

But the important thing is that it’s now available for Mac, so my question is: do you think I would think that this was money well spent? I like strategy games but never cottoned to any of the Sim stuff. Civ, Age of Empires, C&C, Warcraft, Starcraft, etc.? All hundreds and hundreds of hours playing.

In my very limited experience with Tropico (an hour or so, at most), it seemed more like a city-building game than a combat-oriented RTS like the others you mentioned. Completely different genre. I’d watch a few gameplay videos or download a demo of the series before buying, if I were you. (Coming from someone who loved all the games you mentioned, but not Settlers, Tropico, Rome, Caesar, etc.)

I think the tropico 4 bundle was just on sale last week for $6.

Tropico is a city-builder. If you don’t like SimCity and its ilk, you’re not going to like Tropico either. If you like city-builders and were disappointed with last year’s release of SimCity (or even if you weren’t), then Tropico will be right up your alley. Tropico 5 was released just a few months ago, so you should be able to pick up its predecessor Tropico 4 for a steep discount.

amazon end of summer sale through 9/2

The Humble Store is giving away free copies of Warlock: The Master of Magic Clone today.

GoG is having a Sixth Anniversary sale with up to 80% off an assortment of 20 games each day.

There’s also an end of summer sale with 6 hours left.

Tropico 3 is free for the next 17 hours and change from Humble Store.

I never update this thread anymore because, well, there are just too many awesome deals going on constantly to keep track of all of them. From time to time I’ll mention a game I particularly recommend, but there’s just too much good value out there to mention even a tenth of it.

There are a bunch of sites that specialize in aggregating these deals now like cheapshark, isthereanydeal, steamgamesales, etc.

I will occasionally post seasonal sale threads because those typically generate a lot of discussion and I’ll link to them from this thread.

Speaking of which, here’s the fall/black friday sale thread.

I also created a (temporarily) free game thread

Also, following this steam group will point you to a lot of deals.

Guild wars 2 is $10 this weekend. That’s an unusually low price, and it’s a buy to play MMO (no subs), so I figured people might be interested. I’m going to grab it.

If you’re an XBone owner, Titanfall Deluxe edition is $12.50 today on Games with Gold. That’s a really sweet price.
