You know how the Supreme Court doesn’t allow recording devices in the courtroom? Well, the best way to get news of the decision to the network is to have an intern literally sprint from the courthouse to the press parked on the street, printouts of the decision in hand. It’s sometimes described as a race, and people gathered around the courthouse will cheer the interns on.
Buzzfeed had a great article about it, from 2013. And here’s an interview of two interns from 2016 on CBS.

Nothing recent prompted this. In fact, because of COVID, there probably hasn’t been a running of the interns recently.
When I saw the title the immediate thing that popped into my head was the running of the bulls. Except I thought of Bob Packwood being released and all the interns running from him. Is this what dementia is like?
My gf was in DC on business years ago. She texted me that she was having a great time at the drag races. I was confused. I couldn’t imagine there being a race track in DC, and even if there was, I couldn’t imagine her attending. Man, did I feel stupid.
My cousin used to work at CNN in DC and they would look for interns with a track background. When the Star Report was released to the press, my cousin’s job was to race back with it to CNN (it was on discs), an intern rode with him with the express task that if my cousin got in an accident, in a traffic jam, or otherwise delayed, the intern was to jump out of the car and run the rest of the way to CNN.
