Moved a ton of pics to my laptop, deleted old files I didn’t remember I had, some apps I rarely use, what else can I do please??
Check your voicemails, and especially your deleted voicemails. They can use lots of space.
great, how do I get them off Please??
You can also add more storage space by inserting a micro SD card.
Yeah, MicroSD cards are very, very, very, very, very, very cheap. Ten cents worth of a MicroSD buys you more storage space than my first three PC hard drives combined.
BTW, it would help to know what phone you have, especially how much internal memory it has and if/how much MicroSD it supports. And if it lets you format MicroSD as internal storage.
Make sure you don’t already have a micro SD card sitting empty. The default on Android is usually to store everything to phone memory, but you can move apps, photos, files, etc. over to the micro SD. See this article as a start.
Crap. I’ve got the same problem. Doesn’t support Micro SD (it’s a much older Galaxy) so are there other options?
I delete my voice messages after listening to them. Is there something additional I should be doing?
I clear cache a couple times a day. It helps, a smidge … just enough to nudge my biggest memory-sucking apps back into functionality.
Delete text messages. The phones seem to save them forever unless you get rid of them. Thousands of them.
I don’t know how to do this on an Android phone but hopefully someone can chime in and help - delete photos and videos from your text messages. On iPhone, at least, when you get a text message that is an image or video, it stays in the Messages app, not your Photos app. So if you clean photos off your phone, you still have a huge amount of space eaten up by texted images. And if your friends have phones with high resolution cameras, they’re sending you some pretty big images.
My mom gets images and videos from her grandkids all the time and I am always having to clear those up for her when her phone gets full.
You could check your thumbnails folder. Turn on view hidden files and go to DCIM/.thumbnails. Mine has 1.2 GB of thumbnails right now, even though I delete them often. Ypu may still have lots of thumbnails left behind from photos that you have moved.
Clear the cache.
So much good advice, thanks all, it took some research, but i went from 99.9 used to 27. 2 used. One of my text threads had 1027 messages, another 1100. I am dum dum. And family photos forever, gone!!
It’s good you found the culprit.
Just to add…
On my Samsung, in Settings, there is a selection called Device Care. It gives You Battery, Storage, and Memory use and clicking into one of those gives details. Under storage, it gives you the amount of space taken by Documents, Images, Videos, Audio, and Apps. Clicking into the apps, gives details which apps are using storage listed from the most to the least. Clicking on an app in the list provides more details on where the storage is and whether it is app, data, or cache, plus some simple tools for clearing things.
I always start my search in Device Care and 90% of the time handle it there as well.
