I don’t know what a rand-and-file Democrat is, but Rush is hardly just an average Republican. he wields a lot of power over the party and has a huge influence over policy. To compare the blatherings of Rush to any Democrat ever is stupid.
Beyond that, who in this thread has said this is strictly a Republican thing? Can we not complain about what this one asshole did without finding something similar done by his political opposite? Why?
No one said that it was strictly a republican thing. My only point was that everyone complains about what he says as if it’s some completely rare phenomenon. This is something he does constantly and it’s what he’s paid to do.
His actions are also not rare because there are people on the other side of the isle who say and do outlandish things as well…they just don’t get press about it
How could we complain about something we don’t know about? Why are you upset because people here aren’t discussing the comments that don’t make the news? Do you see that’s an asinine position? Furthermore, who cares if some loony on the right says crazy shit if no one gives it any credence? Can you not understand that you’re proving that the Right is worse when you say this? You do know there are TONS of even crazier stuff rightwingers say, but we don’t discuss it because it’s on a blog somewhere and not on the radio.
Having a lunatic as a spokesman for the Republican party was a decision made by the conservatives in this country. The leaders go on his show and allow him to arbitrate who is and isn’t a viable conservative, and the listeners keep it going. The fact that the left doesn’t have someone like this “getting press” is a point for that side. You can’t draw an equivalence here.
No. What I am saying is that the Right ISN’T worse, but everyone recoils at comments like this as if it is.
Niether side is worse. Neither side is correct. Neither side is incorrect. That’s the point I’m trying to make. It’s all a matter of opinion and viewpoint. but for every left(right)winger who points the finger at things like this, there is a right(left)winger who is doing the EXACT same thing.
Q1: If Rush Limaugh owns a significant portion of Apple stock and broadcasts in markets across America widely enough to be able to affect public opinion (and potentially manipulate stock prices),
and trades freely in his shares before and after his broadcast, does this put him in violation of The Securities Act of 1933?
Q2: Is the “this is for entertainment only” statement a valid defense against potential insider trading charges?
:smack: Ah, there’s the connection I’ve been missing. Sports writers are liberal because they wanted black players to succeed playing quarterback in the NFL. Of course! Rush was truly colorblind, the way true blue (oops) Americans were supposed to be!
