What I like about the Nuland wiretapping is how refreshingly normal and sensible our diplomatic corp sounds. I don’t necessarily agree with Nuland about Klitschko, but it’s all pretty normal-sounding.
Rumsfeld crawled out from under a rock and just spoke on WMAL hate talk radio. His message is nothing but hate, bitterness and utter ignorance and lies.
Isn’t fatalism just a part of the historic Russian psyche?
You mean like this morning? Palin: Putin wrestles bears, Obama wears mom jeans
It’s not MY CT. And why you think trotting out the fuck you EU thingy is meaningful is beyond me, to be honest. I know that some of you in this thread think continuing to trot that out means something, but I’m not seeing it.
Enjoy your evening as well. Perhaps you’ll wake-up clear headed tomorrow.
Hole in one.
Applauds
What, and give up Crimea / Sevastopol…?? lol! good one.
It means the U.S. and EU are not necessarily working hand in glove here, which many appear to assume.
I’m just happy RedFury and blindboyard have explained that it’s okay for Russia to break its word, invade another country, and generally push their neighbours around because another country did something bad in 2003. Clearly, another country doing something bad in 2003 means there are no rules or decency anymore.
So glad they cleared that up.
In all seriousness, the only interests the US has here is maintaining some sort of international standard that one country doesn’t invade another (unless it’s the US doing the invading). Other than that, we may wish the Ukrainian people the best, but it really matters not at all to us how this turns out.
I suppose we could get into the chess game of how this affects the US vs the Russian influence of what is going on in Syria and Iran, and maybe that’s worth worrying about, but frankly it doesn’t bother me much.
So then basically what you’re doing is no different than those believing in such whacko conspiracy theories as those believing the US government is controlled by a bunch of evil Zionists or other such conspiracy theories.
You have nothing but “gut instinct” and wild speculation.
Or do you feel I’m wrong and people arguing that believers in Zionists controlling the US government and similar CTs should be taken seriously.
The western news media left, middle and right spin on what Putin said is quite inacurate.
Putin actually said that Russian forces in Crimea have beefed up security to defend its bases as he also denied that the troops in control of Ukrainian military bases across Crimea, were Russian. Putin described those at Ukrainian bases ad local “self-defense forces.”
Why can Putin be correct? Because of this:
Russia is entitled to deploy 25,000 troops into Crimea. The issue is whether they are off the bases they are restricted to be on. Putin denied that Russian troops are not where they should be. Putin could be lying about where Russuan troops have ventured out - but that is not what Quicksilver just wrote. Putin is not pretending that Russian troops deployed to Crimea are not really there.
Putin may end up leasing Russia’s Naval Base from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea for one Ruble a year and our journalists and high officials are poking fun that Putin has gone nuts if he thinks Russian troops are not there.
Europe doesn’t care, at least not enough to throw any kind of official warning out for so much as a sanction.
Why do you think the US should officially do anything about this? What can they possibly achieve on their own and for what end?
Well it’s a blessing that Putin is the smart guy in all of this after watching last night on BBC McCain liking him to Hitler!!! (very diplomatic I must say) and that other cretin John Kerry from Kiev (would have made more sense to have sent as the US diplomat that other clown Jim Carey!)
One thing is for sure to anyone watching last night that these two who are seemingly the ‘diplomats’ sent from the USA camp that they are hell bent on escalating the situation with all their unbelievable rhetoric.
I seriously hope and pray that the Americans saw that display last night from these two insane warmongers and go out in the streets themselves now and ask for something to be done about them but I am afraid they will do nothing and we are heading to war and an even bigger disaster.
If you didn’t watch these two don’t even bother discussing my post. You have to have seen them to understand why we must support Putin against these complete lying, out of touch from reality, hypocritical raving lunatics! If it were not so serious an issue with so much at stake I would have been rolling on the floor laughing at them and what they were saying…
If you watched the two official speeches by the US Kerry and McCain then you would be in no doubt whatsoever that the main aim of the USA in all of this is to make Putin explode and trigger a war after what they said. Absolutely no freaking doubt about that at all!!!
I hope Putin did not watch them last night or if he did he stays calm and his cabinet and advisors do the same and ignore them. They were deliberately sticking the needle in the eye of the bear to provoke a response.
America has no interests at stake, American companies and individuals do. Force markets open, loot ahoy. Disaster capitalism.
Ukrainians want to open their markets so it’s not “force open the markets.” As far as “loot ahoy,” you’re thinking of the oligarchs and politicians.
Western business is greedy, but they can’t introduce child labor prisons or something. There are other regions of the world for that.
It’s a huge, direct border. It’s akin to Russia being the most influencial force in - say - Mexico, and we know from history the US political class isn’t keen on that kind of thing.
In the great geo-politcal chess game, Ukraine is an enormous piece. Russia is already spooked by western advances east through the populism of the EU, and it really has no choice other than to protect its remaining sphere of influence/cushion - as indeed the US has, and would do again.
Russia can only do that where it has a realistic chance of democratic success, hence it currently contains ambitions to the Crimea and areas of eastern Ukraine.
we do need to get over the notion of Ukraine as one voice.
