Russia Wwii

why aren’t russians considered wwII vets in this country?

Which country are you in?

Who does not consider Russian people who fought in WWII veterans?

the u.s.

DuhCow, the U.S. was allied with Russia (a.k.a. the Soviet Union) during WWII, and I think most people here who are at all aware of WWII are quite cognizant of the role Russia played, and the toll it took on them.

Is there somebody or group you’ve encountered who is not aware of Russian participation in the defeat of Nazi Germany?

I hope no American would say that considering approximately 20,000,000 Russians were killed in WWII.

Russia doesn’t have World War II vetrans, they have Great Patriotic War vetrans! ;j

i’m basing my question on this conversation i had with my russian friend, who said that her grandfather was denied something from the government, i guess veteran benefits or something because he was russian and not considered a veteran here.

I’m pretty sure you only get veterans benefits in the US if you’re a veteran of the US military.

British, Canadian, French, or any other nationality who fought in any war not under the US flag is not entitled to US veteran benefits. (There is an ongoing controversy over certain Philippine vets in WW2, because the Philippines were a territory of the US at that time… but that’s neither here nor there).

Simply put, veterans benefits in the US are for veterans who served in the US armed forces. It has nothing to do with that guy being Russian; it has everything to do with him not having served in the US armed forces.

I am reasonably sure that US veterans would not get Russian veterans benefits should they move to Moscow; why would it be any different here?

Yeah, the US government is not in the business of funding benefits for military veterans around the world. For some odd reason…
