russians subs and rabbits!

morning all
after stumbling across thestraightdope (what a day that was!) i remembered a story i thought would have been tackled but i have searched and can’t find anything, so i’m throwing it open.

The story is about soviet research into ‘pyschic’ links and involved a rabbit being on a russian submarine deep under an ocean somewhere and the rabbits baby offspring in ‘head office’ in moscow.

basically the experiment was that they monitored the mother rabbit whilst killing (or torturing) the babies and the rabbit seemed to react bang on time.
A friend remembers hearing this tale but doesn’t anyone know the straight dope?

The No. 8 project in Novosibirsk’s “Science City” was rumored to have done this between 1966 and 1969.

In Russia the Soviets had their own X-Files and much of their paranormal research was done with animals. According to Dr Pavel Naumov a series of shockingly cruel tests were undertaken with rabbits to see if telepathy (mind-to-mind communication) took place between a mother rabbit and her new born litter. A submarine was commandeered, the baby rabbits taken on board, and the mother rabbit wired up on shore with electrodes to monitor her brain patterns. The baby rabbits were then killed at pre arranged times and the mother rabbits brain waves tested. “At the instant of death, her brain reacted” says Dr Naumov “There was communication and our instruments clearly registered these moments of ESP.”
