Ryan TV

So, I keep seeing this commercial for this show called Ryan TV. And it appears to be a TV show about some comedian who is good at doing impersonations. Now, I agree that it doesn’t have to be such a bad idea. But this guy doesn’t really seem to grasp what exactly it is that makes impressions funny. He simply does them too literally. He doesn’t do a Daryl Hammond, or Dana Carvey, or Phil Hartman. Those guys took the most recognizable traits of their characters and magnified them. Almost like a personified caricature. Only the recognizable bits are brought out. But this guy is trying to sell a sitcom on how he can do an accurate Bush or DeNiro? That’s not funny. I don’t want to see that crap all the time?

So I’m watching the Office now, and I see this crap all the time…His commercials are on TBS non-stop… The problem is that you have no context in which the show is supposed to work. So essentially we see him in front of a white screen. So we have no idea about what is going on.

I believe you mean Frank TV.

Am I the only person who thought this was related to RyanAir?

Yes, I suppose a mod could change it to FrankTV? I have no idea why I thought that I had that right. Anyway, I still don’t see how I am supposed to be enticed considering all of the ad saturation. All it has shown is him doing too-literal impersonations of famous people in front of a white screen.
