S&W Sigma 9mm

Does anyone have any experiance with these? I have a good deal being offered to me on a brand new in box Sigma 9mm second generation pistol, but I know nothing about them besides a median price from the gun sites. It looks nice and I like Smith stuff in general but less than $300 brand new seems a bit low for a decent “wondernine”.

I want a new nine anyway, but I was leaning towards one of those XD jobs from Springfield, but this is pretty tempting too. Any input is appreciated.

Check to see if it’s a newer model, I hear the older ones have problems (“VE” suffix is good).

I’m IM’ing you a link to another board that might be worth checking out.

For the record, Smith and Wesson was sued by Glock because the Sigma was more or less a direct copy of the Glock in everything but appearance. From what I’ve heard in the aftermath of that, it is still a Glock clone, but with very minor changes. That may or may not color your interest in the Sigma. If you like Glocks, you’ll likely find the Sigma to be quite comfortable functionally.

It is also said in various places (likely including the place that Bobotheoptimist is sending you to) that the quality control on them is not so good and the trigger is horrible. I generally have no issues with S&W, but look at the price and keep in mind that you get what you pay for. It appears that that holds true with the Sigma.

I’ve read through Bobo’s link (thanks again) and a few other sites that I came across and I think that I’m going to take the cash that I was willing to drop on the Sigma and put it towards a Springfield XDm since that’s the one I really want anyway. That sucker can hold 20 rounds (19+1) of 9mm at a time and I can’t find anyone anywhere with something bad to say about the XD no matter where I look. Sorry to S&W.
