I’m driving solo across Europe in a couple of weeks, returning to the UK after a few years in Greece. I will be stopping at the above places en route, and want some recommendations on how to spend my time.
Saarburg - none of you may even know this town, it looks smallish. I chose it because it was in the right area for an overnight stop, it’s not too big (I don’t want to have to drive into a large city), and it looks pretty on the net (medieval centre, on a river). Anyone ever been there or know it well? I’ll probably have an evening and morning to kill so am looking for interesting sights and a nice restaurant / drinking hole (not expensive).
Dunkirk - I expect I’ll have more luck with this one. I have less sightseeing time, but will have an evening in the centre of town - so a good local restaurant would be nice (again, on the cheap side).
I have hotels booked in or near the centre of both so don’t need help on that. Many thanks in advance for any other advice.
It runs from at least Munich to Stuttgart to Karlsruhe. That may not be your path. And I may or may not be here. I’d say it’s about 50/50 at the moment.
Saarburg really is a very small town on the Saar river. If you’re in the area, are mobile and have some time to kill I would recommend going to Trier (oldest city in Germany, founded around 30 B.C.) and seeing the Porta Nigra and the cathedral.
