Hasbro now controls the Power Rangers franchise. This means, of course, that the Power Rangers are now part of the Hasbro Comic Book Universe, which at present contains G.I. Joe, Transformers, Rom, Micronauts, M.A.S.K., Visionaries and untold others. Ever read bad fan fiction where a bunch of characters from different universes have badly written “Grand Adventures!”?
This is worse.
Power Rangers crossed over with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have any of them crossed over already? And how can we connect this to the Tommy Westphalliverse?
Take a look at that second link. They’ve pretty much stuck all those previously different franchises into one big universe. In some cases they had to rewrite a lot of background to make all those pieces fit…some to the point of making them unrecognizable to former fans.
Looks like the movie didn’t make nearly as much money as Saban was hoping for, which they had very high hopes for because the official title was “Saban’s Power Rangers”
It should be sold to Disney like everything else. Then we could have *Chip and Dale: Power Rangers. *
Can’t possibly be more convoluted than the Power Rangers universe already was.
actually Disney did own them for about 9 years or so after they bought out the fox family channel (aka free form) and it was their flagship show on Disney “jetix”
in the la times " Tuesday’s deal marks the second time Saban has sold the Power Rangers. “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” was included in Saban’s and News Corp.'s $3.2-billion sale of the Fox Family cable channel to Walt Disney Co. in 2001. But the property languished at Disney, and Disney didn’t feel it was core to the company’s brand. So the Burbank entertainment giant sold Power Rangers back to Saban in 2010 for less than $100 million."
Of course they don’t mention they had gained exclusive rights to marvels cartoon library (which led to them buying marvel) and sold them back
I hope they are not going to be part of their “shared universe” thing they are about to start.
Which is ending in around a year. I’m not sure what the post-Unicron status of GI Joe, Rom, Micronauts, or MASK will be, but Transformers is getting a reboot.
Jem and the Holograms and My Little Pony were never included in it (though Jem references did make it into the shared universe, the Jem comic is unconnected).
That just seems so strange, since the full name for the most recent movie was “Saban’s Power Rangers,” and it seems to have good sequel potential.
It’s a multiverse, actually. There’s one season that explicitly occurs in a post-apocalyptic Earth in another universe. It has one big domed city to protect the remaining inhabitants of Earth.
For the inevitable crossover with a future season, they had to dimension hop. Which makes me wonder why they didn’t just bring everyone over to the much better Earth.
