Saburo Sakai, Japan’s top-scoring ace in the Pacific during WW II, and a leading proponent of post-war reconciliation with his wartimes foes, died on Friday. I read his autobiography once; it was interesting.
You might also read his book, Zero!. A collaboration between him and Martin Caidin.
always respected, he’ll be missed among the fraternity of pilots. May he rest in peace.
Oh. I thought you were talking about the Iron Chef.
Sakai’s biography was Samurai.
Zero! was written by Masatake Okumiya and Jiro Horikosh. One was with the Japanese Naval Air arm and the other was (I believe) an employee of Mitsubishi.
(It’s out of print; the full title was Zero! the Air War in the Pacific During World War II from the Japanese Viewpoint.
Woohoo! I’ve been corrected by tomndebb!
You are of course right. The embarrasing part is that I own both those books!
I can only say in my defense that it’s been several years since I read them.
Thanks!
