Sacagawea Dollar Coin

I’m thinking it should be referred to as a “Baby-Back”. The Canadians have “Loonies” and “Toonies” and we have “Green-Backs”. If you look at the face side of the coin, Sacagawea is carrying a baby on her back so it makes sense. It’s not that I don’t have enought to occupy my time–I’m neglecting many areas of my life to spread the word! Any thoughts out there?

We’ve been calling 'em “Sackies”.

At the store, the old $1 coin was the “Suzie Q”
Still haven’t seen a new one come in, though a few people showed them around. The gov. made a mint on that deal if they cost a penny to make and people hoard them

I’m usually the Sackie Cheerleader for TSDMB, but today I’m just too damn lazy.

So do YOU have that new Dollar/Quarter coin?

The New Golden Dollar- Anyone Use One?

A pocket full of dollars

Thanks for the links. It appears there has been quite a bit of past discussion on their use. This is the first I’ve heard of “Sackie”. I’m still in favor of “Baby-Back” and it will be interesting to see where this goes. I do agree that this dollar is much more likely to stick around longer than the Susan B. as it will not be so easily confused for quarters. I am not aware of any hoarding going on here in Anchorage and I see them being used on a regular basis.

I hope you get past your slump soon.

A dollar coin will never work in the USA until and unless we get rid of the dollar bill. Period.

They will only be used in metropolitan areas with mass transit. They may circulate in the near future as they are a novelty, but are ultimately doomed, no matter their color.

I have to go with Travisimo on this one. I think Baby-Back is a great name for the Sacagawea dollar coin. I have been spenging them as quickly as I get them (doesn’t even feel like spending real money  ), and have been referring to them as Baby-Backs… everyone LOVES the name in Alaska! Baby-Backs Rock!

If a coin with a loon is called a “loonie” and a coin with Susan B. Anthony is a “Suzie”, then a coin with Sacagawea is a “sackie”!

Sackie! Sackie! Sackie!

Yes, Josepheen, I agree. Baby-Backs spend so easily, it’s almost unreal. If fact, just this morning, I was walking by a newspaper machine that had a sign anouncing that it accepted them. Even though I had already read the today’s paper, I had the urge to buy another just to use a Baby-Back! Addiction perhaps? Or the inherent spendability of the coin?

By the way Josepheen, I’m going to call an emergency meeting of the board to consider a promotion for you. Keep up the good work!

WOW, what an excellent name. I think that the “Baby-back” name will win over all names in time. Loved your site, worth checking out.
Spread the word…BABYBACKS!

I refuse to accept “sackies” (shudder) as change, and ask either for bills, or to return my purchase if that’s my only option. Coins are awful. Why would I want more? The only people who stand to benefit are the government and the vending industry, not me.

That said, if we need a name for the abomination, I’ll just call them “gold dollars” thank you very much.

Itz been a long time since i’ve seen a sight so funny. I think you make good fun Ha HA I wish thaet you will have a good success.I know about that too! Extreme Bowling Champ of 3rd left in Mexico! Now i got to run now and i wish you much.
I LOVE BABY BACKS! BIEN NOMBRE!

I like the whole idea of nick-names. The Nick-Name Baby-back is both cleaver and appropriate to this new dollar! I have seen many things in my life friends that I don’t care much for, but this… THIS… This is something we should hang on too! This is something that are children’s children can look back on us for and be proud. I believe in the Baby-Back! I think that if I could do one thing to leave my mark on this world with. It would be to support this cause!

Do you all know each other?

I think someone hasn’t done their laundry…

Actually, I’m wondering who Tatortub is. You know, it gets cold up here Johnny and we tend to get a little weird…

Smells like feet…

Who’s missing a sock?

I rather like “squaw buck” myself.
