Safe to give Credit card #, in this Case?

Yahoo Canada provided a ink for a free credit score report

On the last page they require a credit card number before giving me the answer.

What for? I say.

How can I tell if this is legit.

It says “7 day trial free” so it’s probably one of those deals where you give your CC number then if you don’t cancel before the 7 days are up they automatically put you on a monthly subscription.

Yeah, its one of those deals where you’ll be signed up to a subscription service, until you cancel it (they are secure in the knowledge that good percentage of people will not get round to canceling it).

Don’t know the score in Canada but in US those this are pretty much a con as they are legally required to give you your report for free (Annual Credit Report.com - Home Page).

And irregardless of the law, its always seems to me be a particularly unpleasant scam to secretly keep potentially incorrect information about YOU (and send it to other companies without telling you) and make you PAY to find out about it if its correct or not.

In Canada you can get a free credit report once a year from the two companies that issue them (the names slip my mind at the moment), but the free ones don’t include a credit score. I got my reports for the first time a few months ago. For a credit score you have to pay $ or take advantage of something like what the OP referred to.

For the love of Og, do not sign up or give your card number! You will never rid yourselves of these leeches. Every day I get, at a conservative estimate, three dozen calls from people who have charges from these sorts of outfits, who “forget” to cancel the person’s membership or promise that they won’t charge them again only to do so the following month.

Thanx guys, expecially Otto. I thought maybe just maybe if Yahoo canada give’s them a link and a referal, it might be safe.

I wouldn’t bother paying for the credit score either. Just verify your information and be done with it. I paid the extra couple bucks for a credit score from annualcreditreport.com and it came back with a credit score of like 815 or something.
When I was looking to buy a condo, they said my credit score was a little under 700. WTF.

Everyone uses their own equation to get your credit score. It can/will be different from one lender to another. Though 700 to 815 is a pretty big spread.
