sailboat, I hope your wife is okay.

Best wishes for Sailboat, wife and friends. Since she was hit, I expect that they will have known some of the other wounded as well.

Thanks for starting this thread. I was kind of dreading what Sailboat would walk back into with the original one. I’ve been worrying. I know we all have.

Been thinking about you guys since it happened. Trying to stay out of the conversation in the other thread.

Also hoping for news that recovery is swiftly expected.

Wishing you and your wife the best, Sailboat! I hope she is all right, and recovers quickly from any injuries she may have sustained.

I, too, have been thinking about you and your wife since I read your post. I really hope you both are doing ok.

This.

I have nothing original to add but just count me in as another person who is worried and hoping for Sailboat and his wife.

Can somebody please PLEASE link to the post/s where Sailboat mentions the incident? I have to leave for a few days right now and can’t search but will check this thread at the first opportunity.

Sailboat, my very best wishes from half-way round the globe. I hope everything turns out well.

Another who has been thinking about you and your wife. I hope she is recovering well and you are doing ok.

Blessings sent from over the big ditch here too. I don’t do theistic prayers, but in their absence, I will be madly wishing Mrs Sailboat (and yourself) minimal injuries and maximum recovery.

Another one here who is hoping for the best for your wife, sailboat.

I’m late to this, but oh my goodness! So sorry to hear about this. Please give us an update when possible. Hope y’all are doing okay.

Thinking of you, often, Sailboat

Sailboat, please know that you and your wife are in my thoughts. I hope for the very best for you both.

Yes, hoping for the best of outcomes for your and your wife.

We’re eager for an update, but don’t worry about that. Let us know when the time is right for you.

Thank you everyone for the thoughts expressed in your posts and private messages.

I am in a hurry, so a couple of random updates:

She is recovering and (tentatively) expected to eventually be rehabilitated to full function.

We immediately assumed the perp was a Nazi and not just a garden-variety racist, and ironically the news seems to bear this out – he is specifically a Hitler aficionado.

A reminder that we are not alone in suffering the consequences of Nazi terrorism. There were 18 others injured or killed in this attack alone, and another 15 injured in Charlottesville in other incidents, plus two police officers lost when their helicopter crashed. Our thoughts are also with them. At least one of them is a friend we knew before C’ville.

Also with those injured, killed, traumatized and bereaved by this hatred previously, including in World War II.

I was not present, being more or less literally on the homefront this time. A physician in the crowd was the first to contact me from the site. My wife never lost consciousness.

We are okay with people talking about it but are trying to leave identifying information out of social media for her safety. The hospital has posted a guard.

In the interest of minimizing identification, I will be a bit vague about her specific injuries. She has several broken bones and has endured the first of what we hope will be only two surgeries (although they did more than one limb in that first surgery). Her pain is considerable, but her spirits are good. She is in very good hands by all accounts.

We have received a ton of support offers so far. Eventually some sort of funding engine may be set up (several people are already doing this but we haven’t even decided if we should identify her yet, so we wouldn’t know what to say).

I told her she is a hero and she categorically rejected the idea with embarrassment. I’ll settle for saying she is MY hero. My Dad’s Bronze Star for fighting Nazis sits on my dresser, but he had an 81 mm mortar.

Unbelievable. Continuing best wishes for her speediest recovery. She is definitely a hero.

ETA: And much gratitude to you for your update.

Thank you for the update, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thank you so much for the update. Very glad to hear that your wife is doing well, considering the circumstances.

She’s a hero as far as I’m concerned as well. She sustained injuries while standing up for other people’s rights. Sounds like the textbook definition of heroics to me.
