Sailing wasn't fun

It sucked. Well, that’s because it wasn’t really sailing. It was sitting in a marina waiting for gale force winds to subside. $600 to charter a boat, and all we did was sit and stew. We did go out into it for a bit when things seemed ‘calmer’, but the chartemaster called is back in when a report came in the the winds were to increase.

It turned out that was okay, it was pretty vicious, and it did get a hell of a lot worse. We saw a 23’ sailboat sink, and two 28 footers broke free of their moors and washed ashore. The 23’ was brand new, the owners had put her in Thursday. Ooops, somebody should have told them to use a longer rode. Her bow couldn’t get to the tops of the waves, so the crests were rolling over her. She was padlocked on, so attempts to save her were scuttled. I also didn’t want her to whack my chartered boat.

Oh well. We got 9 hours in on Sunday. The traditional sunburn was had by all. And we didn’t run out of beer this year.

There’s always next year.

Well, did you remember the Pirate costumes? If not, I’m not suprised you had a bad time. Even during storms, you can stay bellow deck and “walk the plank.”

AAaaaarg, I was with my wife, brother, sister, and sister’s fiance. Too cramped for pirate games.

Well, all I did was heave my chow on my recent sailing excursion, but hey, it was free.

Sorry you had a bad time, NurseC.

Well… when they say, “Hard Alee”, you’re supposed to DUCK!

Okay, I can see you didn’t get hit by the boom, but when I opened the thread I thought for sure that’s what you were going to say.
Sounds like a very rough day. In fact, when I got to the part about the 23 footer, I literally jumped up in my chair and got closer to the monitor for a better read. Wow! (in a BAD way)
Sorry to hear about your bad day.

Further up the lake in TBAy, there was a blowdown, tossing a couple of crew overboard.
