Hi. I’m coming into the St. Louis metro area from Illinois on I-55. I would like to stop at Plaza Motors, 11830 Olive Blvd, Creve Couer, and also Forshaws, 825 S. Lindbergh, St. Louis, and then get on 44 westbound to points west.
The order of my two stops is not important. Can someone give me an idea of how to tackle this most efficiently, including turn-by-turn directions? It will be most appreciated.
Ok, I’m terrible at directions and I actually live in Belleville, just across the river, but I just jumped in to say that, if you’re going to be in town tomorrow, check out the Balloon Race in Forest Park. It’s a fantastic way to spend the afternoon. I believe that the actual race is at 4:30, but festivities start early in the afternoon. We always get a group together for some wine, food and balloon-watching.
I’m not sure if you are a small town girl or not but I would take the longer and less stressful route. I-55 to I-270. Head west and then south past I-70. Take the Olive st. exit and hang a left at the overpass. Just look for the address at this point.
Be aware that I-64 is closed, that’s why I didn’t give you the more direct route. Forshaw is close by, I’m sure that the dealership can give you better directions than myself.
Well, next weekend in Dancing in the Streets (Grand Center, 27th) and Taste of St. Louis (all weekend.) www.grandcenter.org and www.tastestl.com for info
Your route is made difficult by the closing of US-40/Interstate 64 between I-170 and I-270. As it is it is probably easiest to do the Creve Couer stop first… so, coming in I-55 it merges with I-70 and I-64 before crossing the Poplar Street Bridge into STL. Stay on I-64 until I-170 and then exit North onto 170. Exit at Olive and go West (Left). Take this all the way to your first stop. After that, go back East on Olive and get on Lindbergh Southbound. Take this to your second stop. Then you have a bunch of options to get to I-44 and the best one will depend on traffic. The simplest is just to continue south on Lindbergh until you hit 44.
Basically what would have been a pretty easy itinerary on the main East-West highway is now reduced to surface street drudgery with lots of stop lights.
Hopefully I didn’t come across as sexist. That wasn’t my intent at all. I work at small town banks and it is amusing to hear all of the horror stories from the book keepers about driving in such a “big” city
All things considered, gravitycrash probably has the better suggestion. There’s no reason to take I-55 all the way through downtown unless you really need to go downtown.
I-55 to I-270
West on I-270 across the Mississippi. Continue for what seems forever until you reach Olive.
Turn left (east) on Olive. Plaza Motors is very close to the I-270/Olive intersection.
After you finish there, continue east on Olive to Lindbergh.
Go right (south) on Lindbergh. Forshaw is 2-3 miles south of Olive.
Then follow Jas09 suggestion, continue south on Lindbergh to I-44. Take I-44 east (left) back until it joins I-55.
I would agree with this too. Once you’re on Lindbergh, it’s definitely easiest to just keep going and hit 44 that way.
Some comments, from one who drives Lindbergh from Manchester to Page and back again daily -
Try to time things so you’re not at Forshaw near rush hour. Lindbergh going South backs up right there. It’s not so bad it can’t be handled, and things never stop dead, it’s just slow. And it breaks up once you hit Clayton Rd, which is only a few blocks from Forshaw. Just be ready for that if you’re around there after 5pm or so.
Be aware that the stretch of Lindbergh from about Manchester to 44 is named ‘Kirkwood Road’. This is often confusing to out-of-towners. It’s still Lindbergh and it’s still the street you want to be on.
Lindbergh transitions rapidly from a large divided-high-traffic highway type street to a busy-small-town-downtown road through Kirkwood. Also, Lindbergh has multiple regular speed traps in various places. Be careful.
Enjoy your trip and I hope you find what you need!
oops. I’m so sorry. I should know by now not to guess the gender of a poster here or anywhere for that matter.
I’ll still stick with my directions and that of others though.
Not sure if the OP is still reading, but if you strike out on what you want at Forshaws, I was in the Lowes at Lindbergh and 44 today and they already have Christmas trees! This would be a very convenient stop for you if Forshaw doesn’t have what you want. If you are heading South on Lindbergh, Lowes is in a big strip plaza on your right just after you cross Big Bend; other stores in the same plaza include Target and Walmart. (You will see them before Lowes.)
