Does it differ in New Jersey?

In New York State, each county can add a sales tax to the 4.25% the state mandates. Erie County adds 4%. So there’s a total of 8.25% sales tax in Buffalo.

I assume New Jersey is the same, so you probably need to be more specific about where in New Jersey you’re comparing.

NJ is generally 6%, though there is an area by Newark Airport that is 3%.
