I am a newbie who puts peanuts in her Coke, Dr Pepper and Pepsi, it tastes best with Pepsi if you ask me. I am an OKie who was raised in North Carolina but I am not sure where I got it from. Neither of my parents do it. And of course you eat the peanuts afterwards, they taste good. And I don’t put salt on my watermelon or my tomatoes which I see done way too much.
A shameful side note, my sister and I used to be forced by my grandparents to sing “I was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” when we were kids. We had to sing it for all their friends. Yes they do still point and laugh at us when they see us.
Okay, okay, I admit it! I put salt on my watermelon. I put it on my grapefruits too. I’ll even admit to putting peanuts in my Dr. Pepper and actually liking it.
How come no one mentioned that other southern delicacy pickled pig’s feet?? All together now…eeeeewwwwwww! Even I won’t eat those things.
Speaking of eew, I used to put milk in my Coke. It makes a frothy, creamy drink. But don’t put too much because it makes strange-looking particles float up after a bit. And ya gotta use good milk, none of that skim stuff.
My worast drink ever was espresso with amaretto flavoring and coke. And yes, I do have an explanation for this horrible lapse of judgement. You see, I had some work to get done late at night. I made some espresso, but found I had no sugar. Then I found some flavoring–I didn’t realize that it was not the flavor and sweeten kind, but the just flavor kind. Now I had amaretto flavored bitter-as hell espresso. I thought, “hey, coke’s sweet; I can use that”.
** Bad idea!!! **
BTW ** Audrey ** those particles are curdled milk–citric acid in particular does this to milk. Which is why fruit juice+milk just never works out right.
Well, not Coke, but RC, yes I do. Well, on occasion, anyway. One of those Tom’s bags of salted peanuts right down the neck on a hot day.
Peanuts in coke is okay. It’s peanuts up your nose you have to warn kids against. Up through fraternity age, I’ve found.
