Hells no. I drive a Subaru Legacy, and I live in Vermont.
Of course, those of you outside of Vermont don’t get why that matters, but up here, there are approximately 3 Subarus for every man, woman, child, and cow.

OK, in that case, I would, too!
And I own the other type, the dark green Civic. I always felt like if someone IDed that as the type of getaway car, there’s no way to narrow down the criminal.
I always do, and I drive a Protege5. Its rare enough that you don’t see one at every street corner, but its still common enough that most people don’t wave back
.
For a few years, my dad drove a yellow Volvo station wagon. You can bet that when we saw another (it happened twice) we waved, and they waved back.
Hyundai driver, I don’t usually wave. When I’ve seen one the same color I have though, and no one’s waved back.
My buddy just bought a 07 Element and he’s trying to start up the trend here in town. What’s the gesture called when you do the peace symbol (two fingers), but hold it sideways, palm facing you? Some kind of rapper thing? I told him it was a silly thing to do since he’s usually with his wife and kids when he’s driving it. I mean, that’s not cool!
Daddytimestwo
hyundai and minivan owner, totally uncool guy
My mom drives a Jeep Wrangler, and is always waving at other Wrangler and CJ drivers. She’s also gotten a wave from the driver of a fully restored WWII era Jeep. I drive a '97 Grand Cherokee, and can typically get a wave out of a Cherokee or Wagoneer driver. There’s a guy in the area who owns a late '60s Jeepster; he always waves too. That’s probably more of a classic car thing though…whenever I drive my (well, technically Mom’s) '64 Galaxie, people are always waving at me.
I drive a black Altima. We’re about as rare as Subarus are in Vermont apparently.
I actually try NOT to maintain eye contact, it’s almost embarrassing how common they are. I love the car, with the 3.5 V-6, it’s downright fast and a blast to drive, but it’s like having a white Camry. Which is my other car.
The Kid’s car? A gold Corolla.
Yeah, we blend in.
I pretty much do driving in the city only, so if I see another Mustang convertible, I shake my fist and yell out the window, “I’m marginally less inclined to kick your ass if you don’t get out of my way!!”
That’s about as friendly a gesture as I’m willing to give.
I usually say something like, “Hey, they’re driving my car!” (To myself; it’s not like the other driver can hear me.)
Fellow Mini Cooper drivers usually wave. I feel guilty when I pass one going the opposite direction and didn’t notice it in time to wave at them before we passed, but most of the time I wave.
I’m from the rural south, we wave at everyone.
Haven’t met another purple older Subaru Impreza yet, tho.
When I had a 60’s Mustang rag top I would wave to others, sure.
Was on it’s last legs when I got it, though, so the fun didn’t last long.
I only wave at other WRX drivers, but not the run-of-the-mill Imprezzas. Does that make me a snob?
I live in Seattle and drive a silver Honda CR-V.
When I bought it, a friend of mine who also drives one welcomed me to “the silver CR-V club.”
A couple of days ago I pulled up to a stoplight and noticed there was a silver CR-V in front of me and a silver CR-V in back of me.
So, no, I don’t wave. I’d be waving all day.
I drive a 2006 model. Yesterday my wife spotted a 2007 model and said “I wish our old car had waited another year to die.” :smack:
When I had a 1985 Corvette I would wave, or even race others at stoplights.
I don’t usually wave, but I do smile at other Bug drivers. RickQ waves at other Mini drivers.
I used to, when I had a Citroen 2CV, but I’ve not driven anything distinctive or rare since then.
I’m guilty of this, but my two cars that I drive most often are cultish in a big way. I’ve got a first generation 4Runner (1984-1989) and a Karman Ghia convertible. Santa Barbara is a huge town for classic cars and there are a statistically anomalous amount of both these vehicles. There used to be about 10 Ghia convertibles in a town of about 150,000 (metropolitan area). Less now, but I still see them pretty often.
I remember seeing a thread about how often one sees an aircooled Volkswagen and people were talking about seeing one or two within a mile of their house. Hell, I see 3 before I leave my driveway. In my neighborhood, it used to be that every old retired fart had an original Volkswagen bug that they bought new somewhere between 1954 and 1972.
I don’t think they ever made them, which probably explains why yours is unique (the previous owner probably had it painted.)
How often do you see the regular Imprezzas? 80% of the Imprezzas I see are WRX, with the other 20% WRX STi, and 0% “regular”.
Mine is regular because I didn’t want the low gas mileage or the high insurance payment of the WRX (insurance is insane in Phoenix; I think we’re constantly competing for the highest rates in the country.) Then, shortly after I bought mine, I took it into the dealer to have a strange noise investigated and they loaned me a WRX. I immediately regretted not buying one. My next car will definitely be a WRX or an STi.
