What is the name for the crusty, granular gook that you have in your eyes when you wake up. I’ve always called it “sleep”, giving the phrase “wipe the sleep out of your eyes” a sort of concrete meaning. My Webster’s dictionary fails to support me though. “Rheum” is another possibility, but it is usually more liquidy. There must be something better than “eye boogers”.
