Sanders needs this. Does Trump?
Trump will not debate Sanders, he hasn’t debated anyone yet. He shows up at what is titled a “debate” and then gives speeches. Which, in his case, amount to random globs of bullshit.
He isn’t going to debate Clinton either, because she would squash him. He will find some excuse, mostly like how the media treats him so unfairly, and then he won’t do it. Love to be wrong about that, go plenty of popcorn…

Now, women arguing for more sexual freedom is great. Men arguing for more sex for women is rather self serving. Especially arguing the the need to put out or they’ll get cancer.
Also, more recently, there was the whole Clinton not qualified to be President thing. A lot of people read that as sexist - after all, she was a Senator, Secretary of State and holds an Ivy League Law degree.
As a way to harm Hillary, yes. He needs all the help he can get and Bernie would sadly be happy enough to provide it.
The thing is, I can’t see both of these guys, contained in the same room, to stay consistently on a “bash Hillary” message for more than 6 minutes without one of them just losing it and start to insult the other.
“Yeah? Well, at least people heard about my college and got degrees in classes that mattered. What do you learn in Bennington College anyway? Pottery and flower design? No wonder it failed, it was small potatoes. Trump University, however… that was HYOOOOOOGE.”
“Ha! At least I didn’t line my pockets with the interest charged on the debt I put them in so they could go to my school! You’re just another plutocrat like Hillary Clinton who thinks the country is for sale, and…!”
“Who cares? I could close 10 colleges tomorrow and nobody would care! Why, I was just asked by Harvard University to review their endowments*, so I know what it takes to make a successful college… and to Make America Great Again!”
Riots ensue.
This could be the highlight of the political season - let’s hope it happens!

It would almost be win win for Trump. The better Sanders does in the debate, the more it drives his supporters into #BernieOrBust territory.
It probably will happen. It is in the interest of both people that it does happen. The contrast of an all over the map Trump vs a much more hard line left leaning liberal like Bernie makes Trump look MORE conservative next to that exemplar of the left. Next to Hillary? LEss so since Hillary is to the right of Trump on some foreign policy issues/stances.
For Bernie, he gets more attention put on him, Hillary refuses to debate so Bernie steps on the toes of the front runner by cutting her out of the debate stage with a Trump/Bernie focus.
TV stations would LOVE this to happen, this debate is something people on the right and left want to see more than Hillary vs Trump. Part of that is less about policy positions than it’s about style, Hillary is not an engaging speaker, at all. Elizabeth Warren has more fire and grit in her attacks, Hillary always comes across as saying what she thinks will go over best, and that strips the heart out of everything she says until it comes across as mindless droning. Even positions you agree with, coming from her, sound staid and you want it to stop.
This is OBVIOUSLY happening for the reasons listed above.
It will help Trump consolidate more support from hardline conservative ranks, the gallows doth wonderfully concentrate the mind, and next to Bernie Trump looks like Calvin Coolidge.

Something written over 50 years ago when he was 21 (and arguable if misogynistic especially for its time) and a misinterpreted quote about Clinton’s qualifications? (Most people on this message board are literally qualified to be president but I bet it is safe to say that in your opinion you would not deem them “qualified”.)
Probably it will consist of the two talking past each other because they don’t even speak the same political language. They’ll just rattle off their talking points – responsive perhaps to the mods’ questions, but in no way responsive to anything said by the other.
Then it will degenerate into a bare-knuckled brawl over who serves the best pizza in NYC. I hope.
Not the way Trump rolls, he is almost exclusively improvisational. He starts talking down a particular path until he notices something shiny, then he veers off in that direction, until he sees something else. Rinse, blather, repeat.

Trump’s Condition For Debating Sanders: Raising Money For Women’s Health
I would think Trump will walk in to this debate planning to treat Bernie all nice and friendly because he will expect this to just be the two of them trashing Hillary. Trump will be caught flat-footed when Bernie goes after him with both barrels. This will result in Trump totally losing his cool and going into a frothing rage and call Bernie every insulting name he can think up on the spot. It could be highly entertaining.
Or, it will never happen.
‘Bloviatin’ Bernie?’ Naah, Trump doesn’t know words that big, nor do many of his supporters.
As with many things this campaign season, if this were to happen on a fictional political TV show, the viewers would rightly dismiss it as being too unbelievable.
“Okay – so what if we have the blowhard guy have a debate with the crazy socialist guy? That’d make a terrific episode! Great ratings!”
“Because that’s not the way it works, Ed. We’ve explained this. Both parties pick their nominees, and then those nominees go have a debate. There’s a separate debate for the VPs, but nobody pays much attention to that.”
“But… but… It’d be fun to watch! C’mon, let’s just put it in. People don’t care about all that accuracy stuff anyway.”
But, she already has debated Sanders several times.
