Santa brought me gallstones for Christmas

Very early Christmas day I started getting abdominal pain. This prevented me from being able to go to bed. By noon with fever and pain and no sign of it getting better I went to the emergency at a crappy nearby hospital. They didn’t have anyone to do an accurate ultra sound, so did a CT scan to make sure it wasn’t anything else. 5 hours later they said probably gallstones gave me some Vicodin and nausea meds and told me to follow up with my pcp. Though a bit late I did make it to my family gathering, missing dinner not much of an issue considering the pain involved.

I went to my PCP the day after Christmas. They did an ultrasound confirmed gallstones and found one was possibly blocking the passage. They contacted my preferred hospital and sent me to the ER to see the on call gastroenterologist. He took a look at the ultrasound and said looks like surgery is needed.

I’m now stuck at the hospital and am basically on standby for the next available opening to have my gallbladder removed.

I’d have understood getting coal for being a bad boy this year but this sucks.

Send your own gallbladder surgery stories or wish me well thanks.

Best of luck. I’ve lived very happily without my Gallbladder for nearly two years, although my surgery was kinda a pain in the tuchus. I suspect yours will be easier. And for heaven’s sake, if they offer you Colase (or other things to “move the mail along”) take it! If not, ask for it. You’ll be glad you did!

I hope he picked the right color and size.

Too big and I don’t ever get to see the color. No gift receipt either.

Regift?

That sounds cruel. I guess I’m not as mean a guy as Santa. now I’m wondering how I made the naughty list.

First they came for the people without gallbladders, and I didn’t speak out because I had my gallbladder.

No fun! On the bright side, my gall bladder surgery was one of the gentlest of all the surgeries that I have had. Very little pain and very quick recovery.

Good luck!

Yes, I had my gallbladder out a little over a year ago. Easy recovery, overall, with the laparoscopic procedure (which I hope you can have) and well worth it. Good luck!

My sister spent the holiday in the hospital with kidney stones, and couldn’t come over for Christmas Eve dinner – the wimp.

If that was accompanied by an infection I wouldn’t blame her. When I’ve had kidney infections that’s the sickest I’ve ever felt and I’m generally pretty enduring.

My gall bladder was removed with out issue. The surgeon said the stone was one of the largest she’d seen.

Gallbladder removal is pretty popular thanksgiving to new years.

Now I get to enjoy some pain meds and sit around till at least tomorrow when they’ll let me go.

You may in fact get to see the color! A friend of mine had hers out last year and they gave her the stones.

I lost my opportunity, I turned down the option of having my missing parts mailed back.

Had gallstones about 7 years ago. After being scoped from both ends, they roto-rootered me with a laproscopic procedure.

I gotta admit, I don’t know which hurt worse, the gallstones or the kidney stone I had in 1987. Both times, I thought I was going to die from the pain and both times, my very good friend Mr. Vicodin saved me.
