Uh… wha? Everybody on this board has probably picked on a Pit thread title at some point. The title is not accurate (I wouldn’t call it a lie), but I also don’t think it should be taken seriously in context of the thread.
Well the Ring is presumably the Iraqi WMD’s and Guantanamo Bay the Barad-Dur.
Seriously, how did America go from protectingConstitutional rights to where it is today?
For the sake of thread clarity, let’s leave the title as it is for now. (I know you did not officially request it, but your post was reported to us.)
Anyone see the last few minutes of the Colbert Report where he did a whole thing based on Santorum’s comments? I particularly like the cave troll as Ted Kennedy.
That was funny stuff. Santorum may be a LOTR fan, but he can’t compete with Colbert.
These are two very interesting posts coming from the person who started a thread titled Democrats will let terrorists go free. Sure, in the thread John Mace is pitting those who would use that phrase against the Democrats, but if one were merely skimming the front page of the Pit, one might think that John Mace, who is an honorable man, was actually saying that Democrats want the terrorists to go free. But to suggest that John Mace, who is an honorable and neutral man without partisan bias–a “libertarian” who has a history of defending King George–just wants to bring balance to these boards. He wouldn’t do anything that is decpetive, for he is an honorable man. And the fact that he started a thread with a “deceptive” title that is an “outright lie” and that just coincidentally serves to smear Democrats is merely a matter of interpretation.
Not guilty. John has made enormous progress as he lurches away from the path of political error. What appears to be defense of the indefensible is little more than a compulsion to be relentlessly even-handed. The very instant I saw the above mentioned thread title, there was no question in my mind that the words had been dipped in a vat of sarcasm.
It elected Bush and his fellow Republicans.
Well at least you are narrowing the focus of your hatred today. Does this mean you are relenting a little and are willing to forgive us Americans that did not vote for the Dark Lord and his Nine Dark Riders?
Jim
et tu 'luci? When I saw that thread title, I thought it meant exactly what it says: “Democrats will let terrorists go free”. If this “deceptive” thread title is to be changed, let that one be changed as well. I am sure the honorable and balanced John Mace will agree that thread titles need to be clear and accurate, lest anyone think there is a subtext or another agenda at work.
You should live so long.
How could that impression have lasted more than the time it takes to read the very first post? John-boy is wailing on 'em! The boy is pissed! off! Fer Chrissake, there is just no reasonable possibility of being confused here!
Now, I will cheerfully grant that John’s determination…relentless, pitiless determination…to be even handed has annoyed me…oh, once or twice…such that I ached to seize him about the neck and squeeze in a comradely fashion till his eyeballs…well, peace and love.
I think the trouble here is that our real enemies have scurried away and we don’t have any deserving targets left, save for the rare punchbowl turd offered by such as Shoddy. John isn’t the enemy. I don’t serve cookies and beer to luke-warm allies, but neither do I open fire upon them, either. Our supplies of ammo are not infinite.
I’d just been waiting to use that “et tu 'luci” line for a long time. I meant no real offense. However, I do stand by my statements that Mace’s headline is just as “deceptive” as this one. You may see sarcasm, but it does literally say “Democrats will let the terrorists go free”. I have been called “traitor” one too many times, and I have zero tolerance for such rhetoric, especially now that King George has the power to designate me an enemy combatant and disappear me at will. If this headline is objectionable, so is that one. I’m sure Mr. Mace would not object to editing the title to make it less deceptive.
I think Der Trihs sympathises with us level-headed folks who didn’t vote for Bush or the Republicans, and are simply trapped in the handbasket as the conservatives carry it a-skippin’ down the road to Hell.
I missed that the first time, here it is on YouTube. Good stuff!
Thanks for the Link, Colbert nailed that one very well. You know he is a true Tolkien fan when he specifically mentions that Sam is “cooking up some Herbs and Stew Rabbit.” Too Cool
