Can anyone point me to a couple of good SAP reference web sites out there? I’ve googled, and so much comes up… I was hoping someone uses SAP and has a couple of favorite places to go.
I’m looking for white papers that would explain in detail things such as SAP’s business warehouse, the functionality of SAP 4.7, configuration tips, module functionality, SAP’s portal, etc. I’ve gone to SAP’s website, and it’s at the 50,000 foot level, reflecting more marketing verbage than technical info. Any time I get to the point where I need more info, they recommend contacting an SAP sales rep. I really don’t want to talk to a sales rep. I really want documentation, white papers, and technical specs! Something like ASUG would be great, but my company isn’t a member.
In short, is there places that I could go on the net to learn about SAP and its modules? (like HR, Finance, Supply Chain, etc.)
More "Google"ing has produced a number of pay sites, but nothing for free. I’m beginning to wonder if SAP is kind of like Scientology… no information until you pay.
Anyone out there have any ideas? Perhaps there are books that you can recommend as well as any free info sites?
hehe… how do you think they make their money ? you don’t give away your goods for free, common practice with specialised software. There’s also a tendency with people “in the know” to keep it that way, since ,at the end of the day, that knowledge is cash.
I had a whale [more like wail] of a time trying to find some information on some specialised CAD/CAM software when I had to troubleshoot a system and ended up contacting them directly. At the end I guess it depends on what kind of contract your company has with the Software House. Best to contact SAP about it and get clarification on what info you CAN actually get for free.
The most useful document for you would be the ‘SAP Library’ or the ‘SAP Implementation Guide’- but here’s the bad news, they’re only available to employees of partner organisations by logging in to http://service.sap.com . The SAP Library contains end-user directed help for SAP functions, while the Implementation Guide describes the steps required to install and configure SAP for clients (which is what I do).
If you ask nicely on the discussion forums at SAPFans then perhaps somebody with access to these documents will- how shall I say- point you in the right direction.
If this doesn’t come up with anything, I would recommend arming yourself with one of the many books that cover the subject.
