Sarah Palin: I can beat Obama in 2012

She is getting extremely good press coverage aimed directly at her constituency. Fox spends all day pushing her. Now she has a TV show that will increase her audience, Sorry if you think that is pure coincidence. She gets great press 24 hours a day. The quitinator will be able to be president if she wants to. Her dingbat image is being cleaned up and high power Republican are pushing her every day. In America that is enough. She will win. She is the least qualified person to run in many decades. It does not matter. Fox picks our presidents now.
Fox sells her as a queen maker. If she endorses you, you will win. Ask Angle, Miller, O’Donnell and a few other how well it works. It does not matter. They will sell it as a fact and the voters will buy it.

I had this exact discussion with my Irish cousins during W’s second election campaign. They just couldn’t believe that absolutely anybody would ever vote for the man a second time. I told them I was afraid it would be at best a near thing. They were flabbergasted.

The important thing to remember is that a majority of Americans do not make their voting decisions on an intellectual basis. Their decision is based upon emotional response, and the Republicans have become extremely adept at creating that energy and “momentum.” It is extremely difficult to dissuade the idealogical voter with facts.

It’s pretty difficult to dissuade any voter with facts.

Romney was actually against ObamaCare. The similarities are only superficial. Romney is actually against the current legislation.

Mmmm, rod sandwich…

The scary thing is that Odonell won a respectable 40% of the vote. In Delaware, which isn’t a hotbed of right-wing crazies.

Romney’s position notwithstanding, the similarities are most certainly not superficial. Almost every substantive provision of the final bill is analogous to a provision of the Massachusetts system.

I still think she sailed through because they confuse her with Sally Fields.

:smack:

Please replace “sailed through” with “Got as far as she did”

Speaking from the heartland of Teapublica, I think it is not only possible but likely.

Reason, science and facts are part of the failed Leftist conspiracy!

Most of the Teapublicans I know get all their info from Fox and Rush.

Of course, that would also require they have some balls.

Yeah, and I can win the lottery in 2012. But I won’t. Someone will, but it won’t be me.

I think that it is entirely possible that she can get the Republican nomination, but I seriously doubt that she is stupid enough to want it. She’s making great bucks now and for the next few years pretending to be in the running.

Should she run, Obama is more than likely to wipe the floor with her and erase all 2010 congressional gains by the Republicans. Most independents and many Republicans will refuse to vote for her or vote for Obama.

I don’t see it. Sure she’s got a base who will avidly support her. But her base isn’t going to give her a majority. A candidate needs to bring in the swing votes and I don’t think she can.

Obama will have one indisputable advantage in 2012 - he’ll be the incumbent President. That automatically makes him the “safe” choice. The Republicans would be a lot smarter running somebody who looks experienced and reassuring to offset that image.

No, I think she’s going to go for it. The problem is she’s living in the bubble - she’s surrounding herself by the people who are wild about her. I don’t think she realizes how quickly enthusiasm for her drops off once you get outside of her base.

131,000,000 people voted in the 2008 election. 82,000,000 people voted in the 2010 election. The people who vote in mid-term elections tend to be the people with stronger political passions. Presidential elections attract a more general crowd.

I appreciate all the responses. I’m still frightened by the idea that she just might win.

Be afraid - be very afraid. It could happen. Palin might be the only way Dubya loses the title of “Worst POTUS Ever”.

Hey, maybe the Libertarian Party will finally get a respectable showing! Palin really could be be best thing to happen to this country.

My co-worker voted for Bush because he is cuter than John Kerry. Seriously. I know you think I am making this up. I am not.

Be afraid.

My mother voted for Clinton because he was cute, and my step father voted for Clinton because his union told him he had to.
