Just to clarify, you posted about a situation in which a poor woman found herself embroiled in government red tape between two different agencies that do not communicate well between each other. This situation occured BEFORE ANY CHANGES TO HEALTHCARE INSURANCE AS PROPOSED BY OBAMA HAD TAKEN PLACE.
How then, can this be the fault of anything other than the status quo? The thing that Obama is trying to fix? How could this possibly confirm that Palin was right about “death panels”, when the proposed changes to healthcare HAVE NOT YET TAKEN PLACE?
Well, in a REAL place with UHC, there are no “bureaucrats” who decide about healthcare for the public on a case by case basis. There is nobody who decides whether INDIVIDUALS should get a certain type of care. Rather health care for EVERYONE is decided by a body that consists of doctors from the medical board, doctors working for a ministry of health, and members of the public. The decisions of this board are decided by looking at evidence based medicine and published findings in journals. Everyone is given the same standard of care. The decisions of this board are open to the public, and published. If someone does not like the fact that the province will not pay for an alternative, unproven treatment, they may petition the board.
ETA: Everyone is therefore given the “gold standard” treatment for diseases.
“…I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time…”
Not, I should hasten to add, that this will by the system under which the US will operate in the near future, as the bill mostly provides (to the best of my understanding) the ability of everyone to obtain health insurance through private companies no matter their income or situation.
It is much better! At least, as compared to the state of things in the 1950s, when those rates were significantly higher, it’s much better. Still could use a lot of improvement, of course, which is why I support increased sex education in schools, which has repeatedly been shown to correlate positively with a reduction in teen pregnancy and STD transmission.
Oh, wait, sorry. Forgot this was a Starving Artist thread. Let me try that again.
When I was a teenager, I didn’t have any sex at all, let alone catch an STD or get a girl pregnant. And since, in the SAverse, personal anecdote is the only form of true knowledge, that clearly means that these issues weren’t a problem for anyone.
That’s better. Sorry to confuse the issue with “noisome static,” which I guess is shorthand for “demonstrable facts which contradict my precious preconceptions.”
How could you be so sure? I find it hard to believe your stupidity could be ascertained simply by looking at a your posts! Starving “Mona Lisa Vito” Artist “No, dere’s moah!”
Post #97 :smack:, and you’re proud of this?
Shouldn’t you have noticed that in, say, oh I don’t know, maybe, post #-1?
Oooh, I know this one!
If the [del]Republicans[/del] conservatives held both houses of Congress and passed a HCR bill over the Presidents veto then it would be about “State’s Rights™” or “Fucking poor people always getting to live the good life”.
Reality just got in the way of a different WHARRGARBL.!
I’ve read five pages now, and I still think the best part is the exclamation point in the title.
Sara Palin proven right!
Along the lines of Man Lands on the Moon!
The thought that Palin could be correct about something caught even SA by surprise. As if to say, “holy fucking shit, I never thought I’d see the day that Sarah Palin would be prove correct. That woman spouts so much shit on a daily basis that it never occurred to me that something she said could be correct.”
Sadly, it turns out that she was not correct, she was merely proven to be right, as in a conservative wind bag akin to Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.
I find the title of this thread to be misleading, and I think a mod should add the word “apparently” or “in no way” to the title to avoid future confusion. It could fit in any where:
Sarah Palin [in no way] proven right! Government tricks beautiful young mom; imposes 1st Death Panel Verdict
Sarah Palin proven right! Government [in no way] tricks beautiful young mom; imposes 1st Death Panel Verdict
Sarah Palin proven right! Government tricks beautiful young mom; [in no way] imposes 1st Death Panel Verdict
He can’t cite it! In order to cite it, he’d have to find a news article about it! But he said it’s not uncommon! Common things aren’t newsworthy! So there can’t be any news items about it to cite from!
    OW! MY EYES!
Man, there is just so much wrong with that article, it’s worth at least 3 separate pit threads, none of which involved Palin.
This woman had to raise money from friends and community to get “life saving treatment.” This is what I would have pitted. When my mother went through chemo her friends and community rallied to bake her things to lift her spirit and provide nutrition.
The hospital refused to perform the operation because of a liability issue, this it what should have been pitted. Note that she was going to pay out of pocket, but the hospital refused to perform the operation because of a liability issue. Only as a medicaid recipient would they perform it.
Scrub away all the bullshit about government involvement, the hospital refused to perform the operation because of a liability issue.
"The problem is Jackson Memorial Hospital could not provide the procedure because the risk is too high. The universal policy from Medicaid helps shield the hospital from liability in this kind of case. Without it, they are subject to liability issues. "
Why isn’t that the point of this pit thread? The hospital imposed the fucking death panel. It was the fucking hospital that said, “Sorry, the risk is too high for us, we think you’re better off dead.”
2-b. And then this gem, "Late Monday afternoon Jackson Memorial Hospital confirmed Smith will have her surgery later this week after all. "
Why the fuck is the hospital discussing this woman’s treatment? What part of confidentiality and patient rights do they not get?
I bet it’s because she voted for Obama.
And just to drive the point home, THIS is the result of 8 years of Republican Utopia. You can take all your liberal hatred and stuff it in a sack. GWB had 8 years to come up with a way to make sure this shit didn’t happen, and all we got was Medicare Part D.
As a conservative and giant douche, you really should have been outraged that this “beautiful woman” was sucking both of the the government teets. The real problem here was that she was too lazy and too irresponsible to get a job. I mean seriously, who does she expect to pay for her health care? Some one should have wheeled her and her kid over to the nearest Tea Party rally so they could throw money at her while yelling, “don’t expect any handouts.”
That way they can’t tattle on him. Unless someone can explain to me what someone in their sixties is doing finding opportunities to not talk to kids about sex…
I’m a juvenile defense attorney. It’s not me who is trying to brand people a “sex offender,” it’s the “tough-on-crime” legislatures. It’s those hippie liberals who are helping kids like Genarlow Wilson.
