And my response, “So you vetted her and you still picked her?” At least if they hadn’t vetted her they’d have plausible deniability. I think this makes them look worse.
So it sounds like they handled her job interview-who was in charge of the due diligence on her background? Some Cato Institute intern with a laptop made the Google on her from NYC? That’s some fine investigat’n, Lou
They have a website:
http://www.cfnp.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=180&srcid=218
and a biannual meeting, the speeches given at same being transcribed on their website:
and they’re a registered not for profit with the IRS:
And one of it’s creators published an article about it about seven years ago:
Which suggests they aren’t really all that “secretive”. They just don’t speak to the press.
From Wikipedia:
Not secretive?
[Conspiracy theory]After he wins, McCain better watch his back and have one of his aides taste his food first.
ETA: Oh, and take trains.[/Conspiracy theory]
And she just hit one out of the park tonite.
You might want to take a look at the comments on her speech (and the other speakers this night) over at cnn.com’s Political Ticker before declaring that.
Off a tee, and from center field.
In a Little League park.
While I freely admit to being an unapologetic idiot, nay–unrepentant imbecile, I fail to see the point of this thread.
Objectively it looks like a bunch of people who believe very strongly about a few things have organized themselves to clarify their group’s doctrine, choose their leadership and have been working within the accepted traditional parameters to legitimately install its members into a major world government. Apart from the details of the strongly held beliefs, how is that substantively different from how any other political party behaves?
Last time I checked there was still an election to be held a little later on this year. If the majority of the US feels that the McCain/Palin ticket doesn’t suit them. Then we will see Obama/Biden and their cabinet in The Big House.
If McCain/Palin win, then it only means that their views are more representative of the voting population. Whinge about it if you want to, and lose ANOTHER election in 2012, or follow suit and organize the liberals & moderates in a similar fashion and give the religious right a run for its money.
Kee-rist but I’m getting sick of the Dem-supporters bitching about the wicked Godmen taking over ‘their’ country instead of banding together and demonstrating why the liberal position is the best for all. If the liberal position IS indeed the best, then fucking prove it to the world—show some capacity for organization & leadership because “feeling good” isn’t going to put bread on anyone’s table.
But for the love of all that is green and good in this world, stop fucking bitching about the Republicans’ secretive personnel department. You sound like crybabies.
Sorry about my previous post, it was a bit off-topic. My point is … who fucking cares how the Republican party picks its leadership? They openly espouse (if not embody) Christianity and American Christian morality–why’s it such a shock that the leadership selection machine should be run by American Christians?
And yes, I’m well aware of the hypocrisy that permeates high-powered Christianity, and of the problems inherent in a religious state. But it’s not like the Republicans have been particularly secretive about their beliefs in that regard–they preach it and they get about half the votes.
Well, if I were going to start a secret organization, I wouldn’t apply for not-for-profit status with the IRS, have a website, and have a twice yearly convention where presidential candidates and other famous people are invited to speak. It seems to me that doing all that is a good way to be noticed.
Or is this one of those irregular conjugations? My group is private, your group is secretive, their group is conspiratorial.
I’d like to vet her. Woof. ITYKWIM.
She’s certainly cuter than Maggie Thatcher.
So far what I have not seen on the board is the idea that perhaps a bait and switch is being executed. Obama/Biden seems like a reasonable ticket ratio with both guys bringing something to the table that would offset the others weakness. Palin on the other hand I am thinking is an airhead.
I dont see what she has in regards to qualifications that would put her over the top , presumeably over the heads of other choices that McCain would have on the short list. She may have something that impressed McCain, things that we would not see until she actually took office and showed her mettle.
But the cynic in me says that she got the nod for several reasons.
In the short term she might steal a bunch of votes from people dissatisfied with Hilary losing , she might energize a number of people that are swing voters and perhaps she comes basically without strings , as opposed to other candidates from the RNC.
But my antennas are twitching with the idea that she was picked because at some point after a Republican victory, something embarassing will surface and McCain will be shocked , shocked I say and she will resign for reasons of family or what have you.
So he ditches the entry level Veep and picks someone that may not have had the same impact that Gov Palin is expected to make happen.

“Secretive” is not quite the same as “secret.” “Secret” means no one is supposed to know about them, while “secretive” just means they try to keep a low profile and not speak to anyone.
