Thanks,

I’ve been there a bunch of times. It is very, very beautiful. Some of it, particularly the north-east coast, is very developed and touristy. Most of the rest, however, is rural and fairly undeveloped. Where exactly are you headed?
With regard to acquiring property in Italy, be aware of the fact that it can be a minefield from a legal point of view. I live and work (as an attorney) in Italy and have assisted non - Italians many times in property transactions. My experience is that most foreigners (particularly Americans and English) do not fully appreciate how different the rules are here. That doesn’t mean you should be discouraged, by any means, just that a little bit of caution goes a long way. Anyway, if you’d like more information, you can shoot me an email at nspicer@tin.it .
Can I come visit you?
I’ve always wanted go to Sardinia or Sicily
Never Sardinia, but I lived for two years in Sicily.
My brother has been to Sardinia a few times, though. Both of us were in the Navy.
I’d be happy to answer specific questions, if I know them.
Umm, if you’re a comely young lass, I’ll certainly give it some thought.
I love Sicily! Where exactly were you?
RATS! Sorry to dissapoint but I do not meet your requirements.
I was stationed at the base in Sigonella. I had an apartment in a little town called Motta Sant’Anastasia. Both the base and town were close to Catania.
It was nothing to go to Taormina for a day at the beach.
Sicily was great. The only bad thing about it was that the war in Yugoslavia was going full tilt when I was there, so we were very, very busy.
In Thomas Harris’ book Hannibal he wrote about the history and proficiency of Sardinian kidnappers. Is there any basis in fact for this?
Mr Moto - I’ve been to Catania and Taormina. It’s a beautiful area, even if Taormina is fairly touristy.
Mach Tuck - I haven’t read Hannibal, but it is true that kidnapping has been a sort of industry in the more remote parts of Sardinia. So far as I know, though, there haven’t been any notable cases in the last few years.
