The Kiddo is just about a month younger than Malia. I remember about 6 months or so ago looking at him and thinking “when did my little boy turn into a grown man?”, so I guess it’s something that happens to all of them around age 13 or so…
I think I remember reading an interview with the First Lady where she mentioned that when he was a Senator, he worked long hours, often had late meetings and then a commute. But that now, he effectively ‘works from home’. And that they were all enjoying have dinner together every night, which wasn’t always possible when he was in the Senate.
They have grown a ton, but both their parents are tall, and they have understandably ‘shot up’. I’m sure that’s part of it. I don’t think he looks all that much older, just a little grayer.
It must indeed be challenging to raise children in such circumstances, but somehow families keep managing to muddle through somehow. It’s much easier to imagine this family doing it well than any of the others, I think. Though I’m not sure based on what, they just seem really well grounded, I suppose.
