Michelle Obama and oldest daughter look like sisters.

Malia is growing up fast. Nearly the same height as her mom and they look so similar to me. Easily could be mistaken for sisters.

nice comparison with Michelle and Malia standing together.

Father and daughter. I think she’ll be in college when he leaves office? Such a nice family.

Yeah, I haven’t paid much attention to the election fooforah <to me, Obama was a shoe-in so it just wasn’t that interesting to me> but I did see the pic of all of them on stage, and first thing I thought was ‘Wow, that one daughter looks JUST like her mom!’

She’s a beautiful girl, but I wouldn’t mistake her mother (who is also very attractive, albeit a control freak bitch) for her sister.

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I think she’s much more attractive than Michelle. That first picture of Michelle really made her look buck-toothed!

StG

Malia and Sasha Obama are both very attractive. Michelle seems to keep them appropriately attired, most of the time (not judging on last night’s formal wear, hehe) and they are both at that kind of “awkward” age where many young teens/tweens have not yet grown into their features and are not at their most attractive. They’re certainly faring better than Chelsea Clinton (who has matured into a very attractive grown-up, I might add.)

I think they’ll both be knockouts in a few years.

Absolutely my opinion as well—I know that many Dopers have claimed that Michelle Obama is the most breathtakingly gorgeous, physically stunning First Lady in all American history, a Venus who makes Jackie Kennedy look like the fat girl from The Facts Of Life in comparison, but unlike her mother (who judging by the photos I have seen taken in her younger days has never been more than moderately attractive, being generous) I think that Malia will actually grow into a very beautiful woman down the road.

I blame Obama. And I think the OP is overstating things a little; Malia looks a lot like Michelle but her face is shaped a little more like Barack’s, so I wouldn’t say they look like sisters. But I was surprised last night when I saw how tall Malia and Sasha have become. I don’t have kids, so I’d forgotten how much growing girls tend to do around that age.

Not just girls. Time (at least our perception of) changes as we age, and nothing highlights that as much as having children.

Elect a president who has a child in fifth grade (grade school), and by the time s/he leaves office (assuming an eight year term) that child will be voting.

My youngest and I go to dinner on Wednesday evenings. She’s a Freshman in high school, 14, and teetering on that edge between young and young adult. We were discussing Tuesday’s election results and I was trying to convey an appreciation of nuance to her. Disagreement with respect. Correlation doesn’t equal causation. Party affiliation sometimes describes but doesn’t define. Etc.

Cute break: she put my voting sticker on her retainer case.

And in a flash I realized. I turned to her and said “You’ll be able to vote the next time we elect a President.” Her eyes slammed wide open, she missed a couple of beats, and then responded “you’re right!”

To meditate on: my youngest has no idea who Bill Clinton is. She doesn’t really remember 9/11, except through memories reconstructed by stories and lessons.

And all those young idealists who bought into hope and change in 2008? They’re going to be married college graduates with (a) child(ren), a mortgage, and a corporate job, far too old to understand what’s really going on. Not like the class of 2016.

From my coworkers:

“Oh wow, those are their girls? Boy they’ve GROWN!.. man, the eldest sure looks like her momma”
“Like her momma but pretty”
“True that”

Agreed.

Read a quote from Obama a while back, something to the effect of one of the primary reasons he wanted to be re-elected was to keep the secret service looking after his two teenage daughters.

Is being mistaken to be a generation younger a compliment in America? I think some women would kill to get that.

Better than being mistaken for a generation older. Poor Sasha.

Malia.:smack::smack::smack:

Yeah, no criticism of the royal family is allowed ever for any reason.

Yeah! I should get to call someone a control freak bitch free of commentary on my commentary! I do what I want!

Hahahahaha! I just love an unexpected reference to Mindy “Natalie” Cohn.

Michelle is very pretty though.

No, she’s not.

Trying to get a job in the White House are we?

Michelle’s… prettier than average but I wouldn’t call her “VERY” pretty. Malia though is on her way.

Jackie O? Puh-leeze. America should be so lucky to get another Jackie O as 1st lady.
