Michelle isn’t pretty. She is too hard and angular for that. Her features are sharp, her brow ridged, her mandible strong, her underbite sure, her eyebrows too arched. I could go on. She does have a certain *beauty *that really shines through in the way that she carries herself and presents. She has a style and a grace I love to watch. I am a huge fan. Malia looks as if she is going to look just like her. Sasha will probably be gorgeous. She is very pretty.
Pretty is not a word I apply to anyone over 30 unless it was in a faintly damning way. I save pretty for young girls and girlish women. Michelle is a very attractive woman with strong features who has two very pretty daughters.
My oldest niece, a politician who just won her second election, is 35 and has started to look a lot like Michelle. Enough that it when I see a picture of the first lady my first thought has started to be “look, it’s Terry - wait, no it’s not.”
I know I’m in the majority but I never though Jackie Kennedy was as pretty as everyone else seemed to. Pretty for a first lady maybe, but she always seemed to vague and vapid to be attractive.
No one told Panda to stuff it. We simply like criticisms to be backed up by facts, otherwise the criticism has little to no weight.
Still doesn’t mean she’s pretty. 
Which she isn’t, for the reasons that Nzinga, Seated mentioned. Plus she has a wide butt and bowed legs. Still, she has a healthy radiance and an unconventional kind of attractiveness that I think would qualify her for the descriptor of being a “handsome woman.”
I think Malia on the other hand has always been a little beauty and is about to turn into quite a grown up beauty. Apart from their height I don’t see more than a passing similarity between her and her mother at all.
Hold up, killa. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. She doesn’t just have a ‘wide butt’. She’s got a ‘big booty’. Or more crudely, a ‘fat ass’. The reason it looks like a ‘wide butt’ is because she has to downplay that for the world stage. America’s not ready for a fat ass in the white house.
If she were in the hood, instead of paying designers thousands for a style that camouflages it, she would be buying stretch jeans that plays it up so she can walk around like BLAM!, bangin’ out of control! It would definitely propel her from a ‘handsome woman’ to a ‘Daaammmnnnnnn, Michelle!’
But this aint the hood. This is American Society. And Michelle is, indeed, a handsome woman.
She is really growing up to be quite pretty. Aww.

One of the great things about this board is the things I learn about the black experience in America that I’d never know about otherwise. Who knew TPTB were deliberately spending big dough to fool America about the size of the Ms. Obama’s tush? Not us white folk, I guess, unless we’re advisers to the President.
On the one hand it’s a shame this is apparently considered a necessity for prominent black females in the political sphere, but on the other hand it’s pretty damn funny the way you describe it. Maybe this is why Michelle likes to take separate vacations from the Prez - she can put on her stretch jeans and sashay around like “BLAM!” to her heart’s content.

My husband and I have called Sasha “the little one” ever since 2008. She’s adorable, and if I had to speculate on which one will cause them the most trouble, she’d be it. 
Haa. I like to picture it that way. But I know I am projecting…I can’t speak for Ms. Obama. I can tell you that I don’t exaggerate about it when I speak about my own experience though…where I am from, it really is often considered a ***tragedy ***to have a flat ass.
