Would they be able to incorporate parking aids into SAT-NAV units in cars. ie use satellite technology to tell us where there are spaces in a car park, city centre etc. How cool would that be?

Most Sat Nov devices are receivers, this would need the more expensive Transmitters at all the parking spots. Possible, but prolly not worth it. A local system with a tower would be less expensive.
Maybe, but if you’re talking about GPS, the resolution/accuracy probably wouldn’t be good enough to accurately keep track of tightly parked cars. UncleBill is right, a local system would be much more effective.
