Satanism- is it real?

Is Aleister Crowley the “Mr. Crowley” from the Ozzy Osborn song?

Wow, Slipster. Seriously. I never expected such a learned disquisition.

My take on Kenneth Anger is that he was initially into “Evil” or “Satanism” as an aesthetic, or as a type of anti-social existential pose, but then started to take it more seriously as he became well-known. “Fireworks” and “Scorpio Rising” are brilliant, but his work gets more and more dopey and unbearably tedious the deeper he gets into Anton LaVey and Crowley-type mysticism.

I knew a satanist for several years. Of course, he was also an atheist, so satan was a “concept” for him. It became obvious from his behavior that he had decided that he would rather self-identify as a “satanist” than as a “narcissistic jackass”.

Yes.

Diogenes the Cynic a metalhead. Now that’s something I didn’t see coming

There was a rash of Satanic hysteria in the UK in the early '90s. See Satanic Child Abuse Hysteria In Britain. Hysteria it was. Belief that devil worship exists can have trajic consequences even when there are no devil worshipers to be found.

If you want more information the concept you are searching for is demonalotry rather than Satanism. Satanists can be demonalotors but generally aren’t (www.churchofsatan.org). Demonalotors take into their belief the actual worship of demon’s as spiritual beings whereas Satanists generally worship the self.

I see no mention of us Freemasons in this discussion.

Good; the control chips seem to be working.

According to a story I heard a couple of months ago on NPR, there is a sect in the Middle East, mainly in Kurdish areas, known as the “Yezidis,” who claim to have a pre-Islamic religion, and venerate something they identify as “the Peacock Angel.” Their Muslim neighbors often call them devil-worshippers and insist the Peacock Angel is Satan. It is difficult to figure out exactly what the Yezidis really believe, and what were the true origins of their sect, because they are a very closed, secretive cult, they admit no converts, and they are not allowed to show their holy books to outsiders.

I have read that the “affair of the poisons” in the court of the French King Louis XV involved some kind of Black Mass or Satan-worship. If this is true, it does not necessarily mean there was any indigenous tradition of such worship in France or anywhere in Christendom; it might have been merely some bored aristocrats amusing themselves with shocking rites, like the later Hellfire Club. As I understand it, Black Mass is merely Roman Catholic Mass turned upside down, with all the prayers spoken backwards and a naked woman or boy used as an altar – shocking to one raised Catholic, boring to anyone else.

IIRC It was discovered that their worship of PA was propitiatory. You say a few nice things to the bully, give him a cupcake, and in return he doesn’t give you a wedgie or throw your books in the sewer.

You would think so… however, I have a professor at Westminster College who has seen a debate between Crowley and a Baptist preacher and my professor told me he has never seen a person so calm and well spoken in a debate. Apparently, the preacher would go off and interrupt Crowley and tell him things like, “You’re going to hell,” and Crowley would just take it all. This professor tells me that it made a few people rethink their views. Quite a salesman I believe.
