Is the United States Post Office still going to stop mail delivery on Saturdays within the next several years? I haven’t heard anything about it for a while.
No formal decision has been made, mostly because Congress won’t allow it.
OTOH, there is now Sunday delivery of packages thanks to a deal between Amazon and the USPS. It’s weird to see the mail trucks roaming the neighborhood on a Sunday.
Oddly/foolishly enough, U.S. stamp prices just went down: Stamp prices set to go down two cents in April
I shut down a mail order business I had when I retired, and still had a huge pile of Forever Stamps. I figured it was a safe investment that I could use forever.
Didn’t know I would end up losing. :smack:
Yeah, we keep hearing about stopping Saturday deliveries … and it makes a lot of sense. But the last two packages I got from Amazon were delivered by the Post Office on Sunday … in a small town of 5,000 people … no way it makes sense economically.
But that Sunday delivery only requires one driver to work on Sunday, and he/she is probably making deliveries to multiple towns, not just your town of 5,000 residents. So it can be done economically. (Keep in mind this was a special deal made between Amazon and the USPS, so presumably the price was negotiated so it’s profitable enough.)
