Wow - that explains it.
I was in Baltimore for Thanksgiving, to visit my sister. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, the Baltimore Sun ran a feature about how many calories we all likely consumed the day before. They listed each food & its caloric value. I was looking through the list and it contained sauerkraut. I did a double-take. It was even in the photo of the overloaded dinner plate they showed.
I was totally weirded out and figured the author of the piece was just weird.
Now it turns out that some people really do eat sauerkraut at Thanksgiving.

Of course, I’m the one who chose the menu and cooked the meal, so needless to say we did not have sauerkraut. It never would have occurred to me to include it.
