Saving Private Ryan: what other movies "accurately" portray combat?

There’s rain, and then there’s monsoon rain. The latter is truly something to see.

I remember thinking how it looked like they were really in Vietnam, with the jungle and so forth. Now that I vacation in the same coastal South Carolina locations where they shot the movie… not so much.

I haven’t been in combat, but I was a paramedic for a number of years and I treated many gunshot woulds in the field. The scene where Giovanni Ribisi gets shot in SPR gave me a little bit of a PTSD episode. I remember getting the sweats and the shakes in the theater during that part.

In the HBO miniseries Rome, the battle scenes were both bloody and historically accurate. I especially loved the Battle of Philippi, when they formed a tortoise against an onslaught of arrows.
