scantron 1100

Ok, I’m opening this up to the world, because I figure there has to be at least one doper who knows about this (and if there are more than one, I’d be surprised!):

I’m a teacher, and I acquired (bought) a non-working scantron 1100 from eBay (it said “WORKS!” in the title of the auction, but you know how eBay goes…). As a former Electrical Engineer, I decided to take it apart and see what I could find. It seems that it was actually what I couldn’t find…as in, I can’t find the “mark stamper,” although I admit I don’t exactly know what I’m looking for. The machine turns on in the sense that when I flip the switch, a green and a red LED light up next to the power switch. That’s it.

Questions: for anyone who uses a scantron 1100, do you need to hook it up to a computer for it to work (there is a 26-pin port in the back)? I can’t imagine it not having a mark-stamper (duh), so where is it? Does the red light mean that something is wrong? Thanks in advance!

No luck searching the Internet. You can try contacting Scantron through their website, but even if they will sell you a service manual, it’ll probably cost a small fortune–their telephone tech support costs $300 for the first hour! I could probably help if I could actually see the thing. If you’re in the Richmond, VA area, or plan to be, drop me a an email.

Thanks, Q.E.D.. Funny, but my sister is in Richmond. I’m in California. Oh well. Yeah, Scantron will ream you with tech costs. Oh well, sometimes eBay fails you.

Hope you didn’t get hit to hard by the hurricane last week. Cheers.
