Scary Production Logos

Anyone else when they were kids get creeped out or scared by the little production logos that would air before or after old shows? They would usually have some graphics and bombastic music. Some were fine, but some seemed to give you the chills right? Mainly the effect really hit me when it was late at night and when I was watching on my Black and white TV (yes I’m old).

There is a taste of it in this Youtube clip. I don’t agree with some of the choices but a few are what I have in mind. Anyone else have any clue what I am talking about?

Grr. Argh.

What? What’s even remotely scary about them?

Aw, come on, Mutant Enemy is adorable!

And I’m with Freudian Slit…none of the ones in the OP are particularly scary.

A few (like the second Paramount, and the first DiC, and oh, God, the Screen Gems) are kind of annoying, but scary? Nah.

Is the OP by chance scared of clowns as well? :dubious:

The YouTube clip reminded me of two of my favorites:

“Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog!” <WOOF>

“Good night, Mr. Walters!” “Unghghhhhhh . . .”

At worst, they were loud enough to be startling. Scary? Not to me, and I’m from roughly the same generation.

Obviously none of you are familiar with the work of Watch Closely And Turn Your Volume Waaay Up Productions.

I was fascinated by Mark VII Limited.

Though MTM Productions were the best by far.

I guess it is a “you had to be there” feeling. When you are kid, it’s late at night and you may have even been watching a scary show (although that wasn’t necessary) something about the image and music some logos used gave me the creeps.

On a similar note: nothing creeped me out more as a little kid than when the stations would go off the air. They’d play the Star Spangled Banner and show a shot of Ol’ Glory waving in the breeze, then it would end and it would go to static. For some reason it felt to me that the world was ending!

Or maybe it was because I had just snuck downstairs and watched an old Twilight Zone ep with everyone else asleep in the dark house and that set the stage for me to be scared.

The only scary one is “Saban Productions”
Mighty Morphing Power Rangers Brrrr…

“They’re Here!”

Thissound effect from A Current Affair always creeped me out. I was 4 or 5 at the time when I would hear it.

I’d say that at best they’re more unsettling than scary. I can see it. There’s no actual connection to the show or the commercials; it’s just this little vignette out of nowhere, sometimes with music that in the right contexts can come off creepy. If you’re not expecting the production logo, it can leave you with a feeling of “…what just happened?”

The one for Colbert Report always sets me, very minorly, on edge, even when I know it’s coming up. And Bad Robot after an intense episode of Lost always managed to creep me out.

The WGBH logo used to scare me. I seem to remember there was a show after Sesame Street or similar that used the logo.

Something about the vocoder-voice in the “Aniplex” logo freaks me the hell out.

(comes before the anime series Full-Metal Alchemist)

The old-style flying HBO logo used to give me the creeps when I was little. I don’t know, something about the way it looks like a spaceship flying towards the screen, and then you get really close to it and go inside and it’s hollow. Creepy.

Haha! Me too.

Not a production logo, but the beginning of the old “Honeymooners” show when the moon morphed into Jackie Gleason’s face used to scare the hell out of me when I was little.

(PS: I was watching reruns with my dad. I’m not THAT old.)

I grew up with these logos. I didn’t find them remotely scary.

This I found scary.

Seriously? People are frightened by computer grapics?

The first thing I thought of when seeing the thread title was Mark VII – the Dragnet production company. Sweaty fists banging a hammer against the logo/chisel thing.
