Scary Production Logos

Me too. It didn’t scare me, though. None of the ones in the link were scary in any way.

The classic Greek drama mask that’s been used for centuries to symbolize theater. To be fair, they’re usually in pairs like this for comedy and tragedy.

What was it?

Hell if I can remember what I was thinking four years ago. See that’s why we should always describe what’s behind a link.

The only logos I can remember scaring me were the PBS Kids “P-Pals” logo that was on my Teletubbies VHS tapes.

Now, THIS, on the other hand, used to TRAUMATISE me as a kid. I didn’t get over it until last month. :o

None of it bothered me but when DIC first made the scene, the child’s voice-over clearly said, “dick.” Later, they changed it to, “deek.”

Some guy I found on the Internet used to say “He’s dreaming about his…” before the child said “DiC”.

You stop that right now before I fall out of my chair, laughing hysterically, and injure something.

Hey!

I’m afraid of clowns, and the only word that came to mind as I watched the youtube video linked by the OP isn’t one I use in mixed company. None of those are even remotely scary.

I wasn’t scared of it, but as a kid, the NBC identification tone always seemed so ineffably sad.

The Roundelay-(MF) logo from the end of Knots Landing had been scary to me at first, but now it’s not so much anymore, and is more a pleasant memory than it was then. I think it was because Roundelay-(MF) was only behind KL, not Dallas or Falcon Crest (although Roundelay was on the 1986 Dallas reunion film The Early Years).

I was scared of something similar - a moment in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode “Karate Choppers” in which a drop of hot sauce develops Tom Kenny’s face. That used to scare the EVER-LOVING HELL out of me. I would always run out of the room or change the channel whenever the episode came on, and couldn’t watch it until LAST MONTH!

Probably Count Duckula.

I know it has been years since I first posted this but this listing has some good examples of what I was talking about (which I still have a hard time articulating exactly).

Holy crap, the one for VID TV! WTF? What the hell kind of channel was that, anyway? As an adult, I could happily live out the rest of my life never seeing that again; I shudder to think of my child self being faced with that late a night.

For some reason, the music cue behind the NBC Peacock logo always really, really creeped me out.

For some reason, the music cue behind the NBC Peacock logo (the full-color one adopted in 1962) really creeped me out.

I think it’s interesting that some folks aren’t getting the creepy vibe and some are. Do you supposed it has to do with the context in which we watched tv as kids? For instance it sounds like a number of us watched late at night, possibly home alone. For those that don’t find any of the graphics / sound effects unsettling, can you at least see why some would? To me, it almost seems as if the creators of the things were deliberately going for an ominous effect. Why would that be, do you suppose? I guess it’s meant to created some sort of air of gravitas or whatever, but it seems like a “happy” sound would be just as effective.

Who on Earth would be scared of any of these? I mean, if you have to explain why something is scary, it’s quite clear they’re not scary at all.

I never could understand why people like to brag about being scared, but it’s even worse when you brag about being scared by things that are no more frightening than a newborn puppy.

Whoa, little hostile there

“Who on Earth” would be the people who have responded that they, in fact *used to * be frightened when they were kids. So it’s not “quite clear” they’re not scary at all.
And I don’t see anyone *bragging *about being scared. Just sharing memories. If you don’t relate, why come in here and thread shit?
