Scary Records

Gack! Did I say Dirty Deeds on that AC/DC album? Of course I meant the Highway to Hell album, last song.

“We are here for this – to make mistakes and to correct ourselves, to withstand the blows and to hand them out.” Primo Levi

Just about anything by Eminem scares me. Mostly because I was introduced to him by my kid sister. Anybody ever listen to the album? Check out “Role Model”. The fact that that song even exists, on a gold album no less, scares me.

Your Quadell

If we’re going into that genre, you must include the Geto Boys first album.

Has anyone ever heard/seen Cradle of Filth? Pretty funny stuff. I saw one of their music videos while I was on mushrooms… yack…
None of this stuff is really scary though.

You mean Guster? The radio station I listen to most (for now; it’s been bought and will go Spanish next month :frowning: ) plays that song a lot, and it’s kind of growing on me. It’s definitely a stalker song.

Speaking of which, how about “You Oughta Know”? Not exactly scary, but definitely a stalker song – with a fabulous vocal, regardless of what one thinks of Alanis’ work since.

Violent Femmes’ (fabulous) second album is full of creepy things, but especially “Country Death Song.” The singer murders his daughter, and the song ends with “I’m goin’ out to the barn/to hang myself in shame.”

Someone asked how “I Am the Walrus” could be scary. Maybe it has something to do with the “Yellow matter custard/Dripping from a dead dog’s eye.” Ick. And I think “London Calling” was meant to be scary, myself.

One that freaked me out when I was a kid was Cream’s “Strange Brew” but as an adult it just sounds a bit silly.

Nah, I immediately sympathized with the OP, and it’s not because of the lyrics.

It’s that otherworldly chant of Lennon’s vocal, the monotonous police-siren “melody,” and the slashing distorted cellos at the end of each phrase. Not to mention the descent into chaos at the end, complete with droning eggmen and KING LEAR.

“Strawberry Fields Forever” has a similar effect on me. A really pretty little tune, but the production turns it into a ghastly nightmare. Way before you get to the “I buried Paul” line.

– Uke, not fooled by that “Cranberry Sauce” crap

I’ve mentioned this once in another thread, but no song can be creepier than Billie Holliday singing Strange Fruit.

Lyrics:
Southern trees bear strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees

Passed a little scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolia sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh

Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop

I always thought the cover of my dad’s King Crimson record was a little scary (In the Court of the Crimson King) and the song on it, 21st century schizoid man. And i used to think marilyn manson’s cover of “sweet dreams” was a little scary.

does anyone have the natural born killers soundtrack? when the song “ted just admit it” is on (janes addiction) they have overdubbed diamanda galas doing “i put a spell on you”. its a little scary.

“I am so smart, I am so smart, s-m-r-t, i mean s-m-a-r-t”

King Crimson got scarier later. For a great scare (even for an instrumental work) try “Fracture” from “Scarlet and Bible Black.” Play it loud.

However, for a real good scare, do “The Chrome Plated Megaphone of Destiny” from “We’re Only In It for the Money” by The Mothers. Follow the directions on the album cover.

Well, looking back at everything posted so far, I’ve gotta go with voguevixen’s pick of I Put a Spell on You as the scariest song of all time. Gets my vote, anyway.

Whoo-hoo! I picked the winner, lol…thought of another one that creeped me out as a kid. “Aqualung” by Jethro Tull. Especially the part about “five little girls with severed heads” or something. The album cover is extra creepy, too.

“Mrs. Krabappel, are you trying to seduce me?”

“Thriller” scared the crap out of me when it came out.

“Oh Suzanna” used to make me cry when I was like 3 or 4.

I have over 2000 posts, dammit! Show some respect.

“Every Breath You Take” by the Police

It’s not a love song - it’s a chant from a stalker.

OK, so I dutifully went and found the lyrics to “Role Model.” I am staggered. “Scary” doesn’t begin to cover it.

When I was a kid I remember hearing the lyrics to a song :

“Well its too late baby yeah its too late,
though we really did try to make it,
something inside has died and I can’t hide,
and I just can’t take it.”

Scared the hell out of me. I thought something inside the house had died and I couldn’t hide and I couldn’t take it. It was too late . . .

I think I was 4. Sheesh, I guess I was a dip as a kid too huh ?

BTW, how you like my sig ?

“Empty stares from each corner of a shared prison cell . . .” Pearl Jam

When I was a kid, “How Much Is That Doggy In The Window” made me cry. For some reason I always pictured a little doggy trapped between the window and the screen, struggling to get free. I was about 4, and just for shits and giggles, my grandfather would play it, and laugh when I started crying.
When I was older, “Wildfire” scared me, and so did “A Horse With No Name”. The line ‘in the desret, you can’t remember your name’ really got to me. I still think that song is creepy.
When I was a teen, the whole album “Them” by King Diamond scared me and my friends silly.

I told you not to be stupid, you moron.

B.D.F by Gwar. Do not listen to that song.

Seasons in the sun and Thriller used to freak me out.

if you want to hear a real stalkers song, try Martin Scorsce (sp?) by King Missile.

**Id rather be no one than someone with no one **

d00d, Gwar is frightening in and of themselves. Insane Clown Posse also frightens me, as a concept band.

I was also freaked out by Every Breath You Take, and referred to it as “That Sting Stalking Song” for a long time. “Every breath you take, every move you make, I’ll be watching you…” eeps.

I was flipping through the channels when I had cable and saw one of the N-Sync kiddies say he REALLY wants them to do a duet with Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. ::shiver::

Cat: Met them numbers of times. Long story, they may or may not think I misrepresented myself as the program director of the station. (for the record: I didn’t. But how do you convince someone you’re not a stalker without looking slightly deranged? So I haven’t talked to them in a while.) None the less, they are tons o’fun.

Yeah, voguevixen, I’m with you on the Jethro Tull thing, too. A lot of Jethro Tull songs have a creepy vibe, even when the lyrics are innocuous. I always thought Bungle in the Jungle sounded pretty creepy, too.

Oh, and speaking of creepy vibes, just about anything by Depeche Mode or the Cowboy Junkies fits that bill.

Good example: Personal Jesus.
