I just got my ds’ report card in the mail AND a school supply list.
OMG
This HUGE list of very specific things. Now he’s gonna be in 5th grade so I have been thru this before.
However, where do schools get off “requiring” BOOK SOCKS? I mean, really. What’s wrong w/a good ol’ paper bag book cover…you remember those, right? You’d write on there things like 2Good2B4gotten or hearts or cars or whatever…school sucks. LOL.
We don’t life in a down and out school district either. Our teachers are paid all too well and I don’t understand why we have to buy this junk.
oh man…doing the paperbag book cover was tradtion for my sisters and I the entire time we were in school. I can picture us now sitting on the livingroom floor, scissors in hand. My eldest sister always did mine, because I would goof it up and it would look like Charlie Brown did it.
I don’t even know what a book sock is, but I’m sad just thinking about that tradition no longer being done.
Well some kids do it still but it’s a big rage here. I think it’s actually “Book Sox” … you can find them at AC Moore or pharmacies. They’re these stretchie covers that come in all sizes and all patterns.
I loved making my own book covers. Sometimes I’d use the comics if I could get my hands on them…we never got the paper.
I’m sad about that actually. I was recently looking through things my mother had saved from my school days and found my old brown paper bag book covers covered in drawings and stickers from junior high. I t was a trip dowen memory lane that I was glad to take… sad that kids have factory made book socks now.
In Texas we were given paper book covers which were covered in ads for various products – especially bread! – but in California we had to supply our own. I’d have liked to buy pre-made ones in different colors and patterns.
I know they sold those when I was a kid but we could never afford that stuff…as it was I had to find a friend from church who would give me their Sunday comics to use LOL.
I would always make sure Peanuts was in the front.
