Schumacher stripped of Pole position.

Serves him right.

I wholeheartedly agree. I’m surprised and somewhat disappointed he wasn’t banned from the race completely.

Really hoping he doesn’t claw his way back and win - he’s that good - which makes me wonder why he would bother cheating in the first place.

I saw it live on TV and though I’m only a casual watcher, it seemed perfectly clear to me that he simply brought the car to a stop. He seemed to make no effort to manoeuver and continue.

Help me out here: The article in the OP only says he “stopped his car” to block someone else. Can someone fill in the rest of the story? There’s a lot missing, and I don’t know the whole of it. . .

Missing this year’s Indy 500: :smack:

What makes it tricky is that these cars have no way to restart when they stall and that is what Ferrari says happened. According to one report I read Schumacher was furious at the time and screaming abuse over his intercom as he was lapping faster than the lap that had earned him the pole. However the general concensus amongst experts is that he deliberately stopped to prevent anyone else lapping faster. Just seems weird that he decided to do it mid lap?

He stopped his car on the Rascasse hairpin (bottom left). Under the rules, that means that a yellow flag is shown and drivers have to slow down. Obviously slowing down isn’t going to improve anyone’s qualifying time, and Michael Schumacher who was already in pole position stood to gain a big advantage (overtaking is next to impossible at Monaco)

However, under F1 regulations
