Okay, so kill me. I watch the Sci-Fi Channel. Not to see Star Trek, but to watch The Invisible Man and Farscape. Since they keep changing the viewing schedule, I am messed up as to the times frequently.
I love the Invisible Man because…hmm…Darien’s cute, quick-witted, and the music is great! Now I just have to watch the second part to the edge-of-your-seat adventure going on right now.
I love Farscape because it is made by Jim Henson Productions, who I have to say do a pretty amazing job with puppetry.
I just wanted to know if anyone else at the SDMB watches this stuff or am I alone? My friends look at me as if I don’t have a life or something. I guess I just like imagining this stuff.
Sci-Fi is running episodes of Babylon 5 every weeknight at 7PM here in the US. Also for more info and episode synopsis you can go to the “Lurkers Guide to Babylon 5” at the following link: http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html
Accorinding to them, Crusade will be airing on Sci-Fi April 9 and there will be a NEW tv movie.
I and my friends are Farscape devotees. Great show. They do need to lighten it up a little bit occasionally. It seems every week some major character is in the process of dying.
Farscape does indeed rock. Mahaloth and I talked about Farscape for about an hour and a half yesterday. Hey, I was skipping classes so it wasn’t like I was taking up any important time anyways. I play walleyball on Friday nights so I haven’t seen any of the new season yet.
Does anybody out there actually like the Jules Verne series? I watched about two minutes of the first episode and was quickly repulsed by the camera work. I later caught the last five minutes of the episode with the kid Thomas Edison. The idea of the show seems shaky and what little acting I’ve seen is fair but not great. Is the show any good? Or am I wise for not watching it?
Farscape is first-class SF adventure. It’s one of the few things that make getting cable worthwhile.
My daughter has become hooked on Quantum Leap (she was too young to remember it the first time around). I, personally, would love it if they resurrected Once a Hero, including the unaired 4th episode starring Adam West as an actor tired of being identified with a stupid superhero.
Farscape is sort of the anti-Star Trek for me. It’s tiring to see a ship full of all-powerful do-gooders in a quasi-military organization wandering about meddling in other planets’ business. I’d much rather watch a bunch of outcasts in a near-defenseless ship constantly scrabbling for their lives, with no clear leader or even organization, save that whomever yells loudest at the point of conflict tends to get their way. That feels a lot more realistic, even though I think Moya’s crew should have murdered each other by now a few times over. They’re trying their best, y’know, though…
Add Crichton’s ability to inject as much our-world collaquialisms as he wants, and tada. Fun series.
The Invisible Man isn’t really sci-fi for me. It’s more of a comedy with some interesting character byplay.
And, yes, I have a feeling I’ll still be watching B5 reruns twenty years from now.
I like Farscape a lot, and I’m just starting to get into Babylon 5, although they show that and the Simpsons at the same time here and it’s often a toss-up for me. I don’t care for any of the human characters on B5 yet, though.
I sarted a thread on this a while back, but despite its dated appearance, I really like Alien Nation. They show it on the Sci Fi Channel on Saturday mornings before MST3K.
Now, if only the Sci Fi Channel could get the rights to the Joel episodes of MST3K…
Well, as Wolverine alluded to, I absolutely adore Farscape. Someone sent me, at no cost, every episode of season one and two(I also got First Wave’s first two seasons free) and I have seen every episode of the show.
John Crichton: “You guys have no viruses or disease?”
Aeryn Sun: “No, we cured everything and removed all disease years ago.”
Crichton: “You have no idea how amazing that sounds to me. On my planet, millions die from disease every year.”
Sun: “All that death and destruction, and yet you are trying so hard to get back to Earth. Why?”
TPWombat - The series is the most recent version, started in 2000, I believe. Here is a the webpage if you are interested. Sorry, I am still trying to figure out how to do links. http://www.scifi.com/invisibleman/index2.html
Yes, I know Invisible Man(IM) is a comedy, but it is scientific and fiction, so it’s scifi to me.
I, too, have started sci-fi fandom threads. My housemates have me hooked on “Farscape” (the season 1 & 2 primer they aired before the premiere of season 3 helped me out a lot). I’ve been a big devotee of the post-TOS Star Trek series, and because I now have access to the Sci-Fi Channel I can start watching the old TOS ones as well. I’m a huge Babylon 5 fan (I’m getting the entire series on tape through Columbia House). Used to be into comics, too, and although I’m not a fan, I have an appreciation for anime as well.
Oh, and did I mention I’m Con Chair for Gaylaxicon, the annual gay/lesbian/bi/TG/queer science fiction convention in 2004 here in San Diego? Oh, and did I mention that my housemates are starting a new San Diego sci-fi con next year?
