Scooby Doo Gang Violates Villans' Civil Rights

I’ve always wondered how many laws the Mysteries, Inc. gang has broken through the years catching those villains. How many times have they been guilty of tresspassing or breaking ane entering the haunted house/castle/grave yard while looking for clues? What about those traps? Surely the act of encasing a villain wearing a ghost costume in hot wax or wet cement, letting it harden, and then waiting the twenty or thirty minutes for the sheriff to show up before they release him and remove the mask could expose them to lawsuits. And finally, that line 'And I’d have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those medeling kids!" will never hold up in court. The sheriff never gives him the Miranda warning!

Yes, but more importantly, where do all of the villans get their layers of masks from at the end?

Haven’t you seen the special edition DVD? The deleted scenes show that once Scooby and the others leave, the sheriff leads the villain into a deserted area and executes him with a single bullet through the back of the head.

“What penalty do you recommend for these crimes, Mr. Doo?”

“Reath Renalty!”

I believe that as a spontaneous admission Miranda would not apply. I’m sure a lawyer Doper will confirm this or correct me.

As for your “trespassing” charge, remember that most of the time, the property is abandoned, public (e.g. cemetary), or owned by their client. So no problems there, usually.

Now, actual crimes committed is another story. Sometimes there are rather obvious ones committed, but in others, it’s more murky. Is there any law against trying to drive someone insane (I’m thinking of one episode in particular)?

There may not be a law specifically against trying to drive someone insane, but harrassment, and malicious mischief would likely cover the actions.

Not to mention all the leash laws being broken. And laws of cleaning up after your dog, maybe. A big dog that eats that much must drop monster steamers. But, if he can talk, maybe he also uses toilets.

And, there’s the laws of nature that were broken in the creation of Scooby-Doo. There’s must have a been a “human in woodpile” if you catch my drift…

I’d like to see some kind of shakedown of Shaggy – why does he seem to always have “the munchies” & why is he so clumsy and uncoordinated? Always getting in the way. If I were one of those Sheriff’s from the sticks I’d turn the tables on him. I’d bet he’s holding.

And aren’t their animal protection laws? If I took my dog into an abandoned mine and went on a wild ride on the old ore-cart including leaving the tracks several times - and topped it off by dressing my dog as a 1970’s Saloon gal & I put all that on TV - PETA would be down on me like a ton of bricks.

This being the age of the Internet, I am sure there is a Website where you wold be encouraged to post jpegs…

On a early episode of “Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law” [Adult Swim] Shaggy and Scooby were both arrested and sent to jail on suspicion of drug use, but were fully exonerated and indeed caught the criminal by being meddling kids (and best of all, Harvey’s falcon Avenger snagged and carried away Scrappy Doo, hopefully to a fitting end…)
