We have a great butcher shop in town, Brightoak Meats, that deals almost entirely with locally raised, grass fed meats and wild game. We don’t buy a lot of meat for ourselves, but when we do it’s always from there. I went there yesterday to pick up some ground lamb to make samosas for dinner, and the butcher lady says to me “Hey! I have something for you! I forgot to get your number last time you were
in…” She disappears into the freezer and comes back with a forty pound box of fatty lamb cuts at thirty nine cents per pound, woot! Then she proceeds to tell me that she’s got all these racks of lamb ribs that she was going to grind up for the fresh dog food they make (ground organically raised meat, bone, organ meats, and a veggie mix), but she let them sit too long and now they’re a little bit off. Do I want them? For
free? Hell yes, I want them. So turns out I went for a pound of ground lamb and came home with about a hundred and twenty pounds of dog and cat food for about $15.

Anyone else make a good score lately?

I have been into landscaping for the past couple of years but our yard is very large and it would cost a fortune to fill it with really good plants. I try to buy them a few at a time. I went into Lowes a couple of weeks ago and walked into their garden section. They had the mother of all end of season clearances going on for plants. All roses, including the good ones formerly $50 a piece were $1. I got 20 of them. The spiral junipers bout 6 feet tall marked $120 were $20 a piece and red Japanese maples formerly $50 a piece were $10 dollars. I got about $800 worth of plants for $60 (they even made a mistake in my favor at the register). Score!
