Scott Adams says he is dying {Died January 13th, 2026 at age 68}

I, for one, am saddened by the turn Adams’ life took, and I hope he found some peace at the end. I was a fan of his early work with Dilbert. We even had one of his books, The Dilbert Principle, which teaches: “The most incompetent workers are invariably put in the place where they can do the least amount of damage: Management.”

“Obit,” of a sort, by Scott Alexander of Astral Codex Ten:

I don’t know jack about Adams except the comic and the Trumpism; apparently there’s more depth and pathos (and, frankly, hateability, but understandable in a way) than I ever imagined.

Thanks for posting this, I really enjoyed the read. I’m not familiar with Scott Alexander but I’m going to read more of his work.

I also loved Dilbert as a kid/teen but eventually moved on, and didn’t pay any attention until he got canceled and went full maga. It was nice to fill in the gaps.

Thanks, that’s a really nice article about Scott Adams.

To the vile dust from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonored , and unsung.

It’s gotta be hard to die with that much hate and so few friends. Anyway…

Live for the Hate; die with the Hate.

I started recognizing that he author was doing the same thing he accused Adams of doing: manipulating his audience.

He started out with this whole “I come not to praise Scott Adams, but bury him.” thing, and by the end he was praising him. But he was no Marc Antony. I wasn’t buying.

But in a meta way, that makes me the “smartest man in the room”! :slight_smile:

I got the impression he was trying to be sympathetic about someone he once admired. But there was a certain amount of bending over backwards, yes.

The article did clue me in on all the self-help books Adams wrote, and the political punditry. I never knew any of that. “He successfully predicted ten of the last zero recessions.”

But the analysis of the reaction formation was interesting. I think I understood it before, but never know it was common, never appreciated how it governs a lot of behavior.
